COX, R. Melville - November 1, 1916 - October 31, 2010 Born in Sheffield, England November 1, 1916, Mel was six years old when he immigrated to Canada with his parents Walter and Annie Mae (Stephens) Cox. He attended Burlington High School and McMaster University. He was also very proud of his service in the RAF during World War II. In 1949 he married Lois Irene MacGibbon, and they had one daughter. Mel was active in the credit industry most of his working life. He was the President of the Credit Bureau of Greater Toronto, served as a National Councillor of The Canadian Credit Institute, was a member of the Institute's National Education Committee and a Director of The Canadian Credit Institute Educational Foundation. He was Past President and Dean of the Institute, Past President of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Canada, Past President of the Credit Grantors Association of Hamilton, and a member of the National Credit and Financial Executive's Forum. He also served as Director of Associated Credit Bureaus Incorporated. He was a speaker at many national credit conventions in both Canada and the U.S. and appeared frequently on Public Affairs programs on the CBC and CTV networks. Mel was a keen promoter of Credit Counselling, and was one of the original founders of the Credit Counselling Service of Metropolitan Toronto. He had considerable contact with both government and the media in all phases of consumer protection and education. Mel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois, his daughter Janice (Charles) Frawley of New Richmond, Wisconsin, granddaughter Amanda (Larry) Erickson, of New Richmond, granddaughter Linsey Frawley of St. Paul, Minnesota, grandson Gavin Parkes of Keswick, Ontario, great- grandsons Mason and Tucker Erickson and great-granddaughters Amber, Shelby and Serena Parkes. Burial at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens, Oakville. Memorials to the Red Cross preferred in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be made at
