Rene Sylvia DEETH
We are saddened by the loss of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who passed away quietly, at home, on February 10, 2017, at the age of 92. Born in 1924 in Liverpool, England, she married George Deeth, a young RCAF pilot, in the weeks after VE day, and joined him in Canada in 1946 to start a new life. She was married to George for 51 years and since his death in 1996 remained stubbornly, and often frustratingly, independent. Having travelled extensively while married, she continued with trips to the south, to the Middle East and to Australia with her dear friend George Lane (2006).
She loved dogs and gardening and excelled at embroidery. She was an excellent cook, baker and hostess, although in her later years the relationship between her recipes and the ingredients she used was questionable. Most of all, she loved and was intensely proud of her grandchildren, who loved her dearly.
She is survived by her sons Douglas (Dorothy), David (Susane), Steve (Bev) and Alan (Karen), her grandchildren Christopher (Heather), Sarah, Lorna (Rick), Geoffrey (Michelle), Michael (Janine), Laura (Jay), Heather (Jordan), Penny (Jeff), Emily (Jeff), Samuel, Joseph and Kelly, great-grandchildren Jenson and Launie and by her sister Sylvia Hughes and brother Reg Burnside. She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews in Canada and the UK.
At Rene's request, there will be a private memorial service for the family. She was a longtime supporter of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ian Anderson House, the Scott Mission, the Salvation Army and the Toronto Humane Society and would have appreciated a gift to any of these, or to a charity of your choice, in her name.
