I had a dream last night of a great Priest I used to know in Dorval, Quebec. This morning I did a search on google and found that this man who changed my life forever had passed away. I never forgot the nights we had a smoke together out back at St. Veronica Parish and had so many great talks and laughs. I am so fortunate to have met someone who truly cared about everyone around him. He truly made a difference in this world, and I am sure that God was so glad to see him when he passed into his world.

In April 1993 the Lord sent us an angel in the person of Fr.Rick Hurdle. Our son had died at 31yrs old. While at Marcotte funeral home making arrangements no priest was available at St.Williams or St.Annes to
celebrate our son's Mass of Christian burial.Brian Parent, the funeral director at Marcotte's made numerous telephone calls but to no avail.Moments
later our brother in law showed up with Fr.Rick Hurdle(who we had never met).He walked in with his big smile, was introduced to us and he graciously accepted to celebrate our son's Mass. From then on we became very close friends. The following year we travelled to the Holy Land with him.Rick was very supportive in our time of grief and we were able to offer him our support for the past 19yrs.He was gifted in so many ways.He brought so much spiritual life and meaning to every parish he served especially in the celebration of the Eucharist.Rick always wore his heart on his sleeve.Although he felt weak and discouraged carrying his crosses he never gave up faith. As we move on to embrace the future with hope we offer thanksgiving to God in recognition of Rick's loving service. He gave witness to his faith from its humble beginnings until now.We will never forget our "angel" Rick. You were Loved,Gifted and now Called to your eternal home.

Dear Fr. Rick,
It is with great sadness to hear of your passing. Always so concerned about others, so generous, so caring about the downtrodden.
We thank you for the love of Christ that you have demonstrated so often and for the laughs and coffees we have shared in our home. The family will truly miss you.
May the Lord embrace you in His arms and bring you great peace.

Dearest Fr. Rick,
So generous, kind, compassionate and caring, that others could not fathom your concern for the down trodden.
So proud to be a disciple and a messenger of the Lord ... and so in love with Him.
So good to have as a friend, as a pastor, as a conduit to God's loving and forgiving haven.
I will forever miss the coffees and the philosophical and theological discussions we had at the CINNAMON SHOP.
The family will always remember the laughter you brought to our home and the faith you embraced so dearly.
God bless you our friend.

We have lost a man who was a loving son, an inspiring homilist, a generous friend. We treasure the laughter shared around the supper table, his eloquence in proclaiming Good News, his courageous support for those striving for justice, his humility in acknowledging his imperfections and burdens and his witness of forgiveness.

Fr. Rick once told us about the peace and solace he had experienced when he prayed near the Pabineau Falls of the Nepisiguit River. Now we thank God for Welcoming Fr. Rick to complete healing and peace.
