RICHARD THOMSON Obituary

THOMSON, RICHARD EDWARD November 21, 1941 - August 25, 2022 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Thomson. Richard is now reunited with the love of his life, wife, Georgia. They were married for 51 wonderful years. He was predeceased by his parents (Lenworth Davis and Dorothy Maude) and his brother, Derek Thomson, all having resided in Jamaica. Richard is survived by his beloved son, Michael (Blanka, step-grandchildren Katarina, Marko and Deanna) of Toronto, Canada, beloved son, David (Gollisa) and grandchildren, Ebony and Ally of Brisbane, Australia and brother, Peter of the USA. Richard's illustrious career began in Jamaica at the Credit Bureau of Jamaica. He also tirelessly worked with the Jamaica Lawn Tennis Association (JLTA) and he professionally represented his country in the Brandon Trophy and the Davis Cup. Upon moving to Canada in 1976, Richard commenced working at the Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) as their Technical Director of which he pioneered the growth and expansion of tennis in Ontario. In 1981, being entrepreneurial, Richard started his own business entitled the Richard Thomson International Tennis School in Collingwood, ON, which ran for 30 successful seasons. Post-retirement, Richard continued to keep up with the current tennis scene. A special thank you to Mary, who stood by Richard and the family during the most difficult of times. We were blessed to have you. Also, a thank you to Dr. Harani of the Baycrest Centre, LHIN coordinator, Harita and his caregivers for their diligent care. Richard will be laid to rest at the St. Margaret's of Scotland Catholic Church at Avenue Road and Wilson (222 Ridley Blvd., Toronto, ON), next Friday, September 16th, at 10:30 a.m. Afterward, attendees will be invited to his burial at the Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery (305 Erskine Ave., Toronto, ON). In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Charity of Your Choice. Rest in peace Dad, we will miss you dearly.

Mike, Dave, we offer our condolences.
I, as many of us have known Richard through the tennis circle for many years and Richard has always treated me like family. We had great times in Collingwood, Toronto and played some good matches together when he was mobile and refused to get his knee fixed.(Good excuse when losing). I will, along with my entire family miss Richard but know he's certainly enjoying what heaven has to offer. R.I.P Rich God bless.
