Just received the sad news. Our deepest heartfelt sympathies for Mara, Darius and Soren, and all his friends and colleagues. I am honored to have known Richard for the past 25 years. I enjoyed listening about some of his aspirations and accomplishments, and watching his family develop. I will really miss him. Truly a gentle man and a scholar.

It was mid-September that I was on Ward's Island and thought back to RIchard, wondering if he was in one of the cottages, writing away. It was only a few days later that I heard of his tragic passing. It's been a few years since we worked together at the CMC. My condolences go to his family, friends, and all those who worked with him. I'm so sorry. Soren, I know it's been awhile, but you are in my thoughts.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Richard's death. We were classmates at university and good friends. We reconnected about a year ago and it was such a pleasure to find that all of his promise as an artist had been fulfilled. It is so sad that his life was cut short, not just for the artistic community, but for his wife, children and friends.

Dear dear Richard. This is absolutely tragic. I've been working with Richard & Beverley on a new story collection for fall, Teksteditions. He's been the most gracious, patient, and canny editor I've ever known. Was looking forward to hearing his famous voice in person. His writing astonished me, particularly Terminal Intelligence and Dynamite in the Lung. Such originality, range, and erudition in his work. An incredibly talented writer who wasn't afraid to praise other writers. Warrior for the underutilized iconic wordsmiths. Champion of unlikely collaborations. Maybe it's his background in music that allowed such embracing enthusiasms: The unusual anthologies he devised. The multi-media book events. This is a devastating loss for the intelligent community of readers and writers worldwide. My heart aches for all who knew and loved him, especially Bev and his family.

I'm thinking of you all - artists and friends of Richard - and especially Mara, Soren & Darius - as you gather to remember and celebrate my old friend & collaborator 'Truhlar' today. Memories of many performance moments with that dynamic, gentle man are rolling through my mind. Wish I could be there today.

Sending sincere sympathies to your family. I worked with Richard for a number of years first at the Canadian Music Centre in Toronto, and subsequently from afar while he was Producer of the Centrediscs recording label and i was the graphic designer. He was always a pleasure to work with -- professional and amiable. He leaves behind a creative legacy.

So very sorry!. We - Richard, Steven Smith and myself, did lots of work together in the eighties. My first cassette - Transonances, features his wonderful sound poetry. I last saw Richard when I was visiting Toronto in 2010. My heart goes out to his family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just received the news. I am deeply saddened. In recent years, I have only had rare occasion to be in touch with Richard but I have always counted him as one on a short list of my favourite people. I have fond memories of his kindness to me back in the Underwhich days. I will think of him often, and fondly, in the days ahead. And I will miss him.
