Richard Vaillancourt Obituary

VAILLANCOURT, Richard Albert - Passed away peacefully on July 17, 2009 at Princess Margaret Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Richard's difficult journey has ended and he joins his father Réjean in paradise. Richard is survived by his mother Lucille (Brouillard) of Chelmsford, and his brothers Serge and André and wife Ginette; and his loving sister Carole and husband Carlo Berardi. Richard was very proud of his nieces Josée, Geneviève and Sophia, and his nephew Réjean. He is lovingly remembered by his spouse of 17 years, Rob Lavery. He was a cherished family member to Leila and Glenn Lavery, and Janice Lavery and Dave Hubbarde. Dear friends Steve, Gerry, Scott and many others around the world will miss him deeply. Richard was a consummate professional with a distinguished career that began with the federal civil service in Ottawa, and later the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services in Toronto, before joining the private sector as a business management consultant. The final years of his career with the team at atFocus, under the mentorship of Moosha Gulycz and Stan Brown gave him incredible opportunities for travel and growth for which he was always grateful. Richard was passionate about many things in life, including his home at 192 Jarvis St., where he served many years on the condominium board. He will be remembered by friends and family for his elaborate barbeques and dinner parties topped off with cigars, brandy and homemade chocolates, his fastidious attention to his attire - especially known for his hats and accoutrements, and his great sense of humour and generosity. Richard's care team would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Franke and the wonderful nursing staff at Princess Margaret Hospital on the 15th floor for their compassionate care in his final weeks. Richard loved flowers, but we suggest you make a small donation to your favourite charity. And in his memory, raise a glass of Chivas and toast a life well-lived. He left this world with no regrets. Friends may call at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne St. (south of Wellesley) on Monday, July 20 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., followed by a service in the Coach House Chapel on Tuesday, July 21 at 1:30 p.m., with cremation to follow.

My sincere condolences to the Vaillancourt family and to Rob. I had the honor of working with Richard for two years while working with atFocus, and enjoyed our time together, especially at the local gym while in Vancouver. We had many lengthy and involved conversations, and we always had lots to talk about. Our loss is definitely God's gain!
Take care,

Noreen

My deepest sympathy to Rob.

My fondest memory of Richard was a business trip (Health and Welfare Canada)to Edmonton in the mid 1980s. At the end of our meetings, Richard, Carole Vallerand and I rented a car for the weekend and drove down the Icefields Parkway through the Rockies to Calgary and back to Edmonton before returning to Ottawa. We, of course, put Richard in charge of organizing the picnic lunches and they were memorable - the finest of patés and cheeses and fruit and salads and always a bottle of beautiful wine all consumed amidst the most breathtaking of scenery.

My deepest condolences to Richard's family and loved ones.

Richard has always held a special place in my heart. Never judgemental and always a true friend. I will never forget our trip to Australia together, a chance I would never have gotten without him. Rob, you may not know me but he has always spoken so well of you. To his mom and siblings, my deepest of sympathy. Take care of each other.
