ROBERT ARMITAGE DEMPSEY (Proprietor of Dempsey Brothers Hardware) Peacefully passed away at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Bob Dempsey of Gilford and formerly of Willowdale, at 80 years of age. Beloved husband of Barbara for 55 years. Loving father of Mark (Wendy), Jane (Tim) Moore, Carol (Scott) Edwards and Sandy Dempsey (Rosario Calleri). Proud grandfather of Pamela and Robert; Brendan, Galen, Ryan, Sean and Quin; Kiersten and Liam. Survived by his brother Jim (Barbara) Dempsey. Special thanks to Dr. Mikhail, staff at Princess Margaret Hospital and Lodge, and Southlake Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care. Friends may call at SKWARCHUK FUNERAL HOME, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803), for visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. Private family interment. Donations to the Cancer Clinic at Southlake Regional Health Centre would be appreciated. Going to Dempsey's on Saturday morning in the 50's was a big treat for my brother and I. My dad always found he needed something so that he could go down and chat with "Mickey". What a wonderful memory I have of that time and place. Know that Mr. Dempsey's good humour and kind nature has stayed with us all over all these decades.
