Robert McMeekin Obituary

ROBERT (BOB) WILSON McMEEKIN

Passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014, in his 93rd year.  Predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joyce (Kemp), Bob leaves behind his children and their spouses, Kemp and Pam (Blackstock), Blair, Keith and Julie (Todd), and Scott; grandchildren Caitlin, Alison, Anna and Eve; in-laws, Yvonne McMeekin (John), and Beryl and Hazen Price; and niece and nephews, Liza, Robert, Bruce and their families.  Born 1922 in Larne, Northern Ireland, Bob arrived in Windsor, Ontario at the age of 8 and quickly became an un-hyphenated Canadian.  Unable to serve, Bob spent the war years as a draftsman at the Canadian Bridge Company, attending night school in civil engineering (Wayne State).  He managed London Steel in London, Ontario, moving to Toronto in 1964 to work for Stran Steel, then Morrison Hershfield, where he spent the "best" 20 years of his career.  At the Bridge Company, Bob met his wife, Joyce, of whom he was immensely proud in every way.  Joyce was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1998 and lived at home with Bob until her death in 2011.  Both felt fortunate to have the other.  The family would like to thank the caregivers who not only looked after, but truly cared for, Bob and Joyce over the past 13 years.  The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, with an informal service at 3:00 p.m.  Donations to any charity would be welcomed to mark Bob's passing.  Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com

I have known Bob since 1968 when I started to work at Morrison Hershfield Millman & Huggins (MHMH) as the company was then called. He was well liked and respected, When Bob retired, some of us, his former colleagues, maintained contact with him and met him for lunch at the Old Mills Inn a few times over the years. Bob will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the family.
