ROBERT MURRAY Obituary

ROBERT JAMES MURRAY, DDS, LDS Today we mourn the loss of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bob (Doc) was born July 29, 1923 in Toronto, Ontario and died peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in his ninety-second year. Bob is the son of the late Dr. Gordon and Anne Murray. He is survived by his cherished wife and life-long partner, Mhora Kathleen (nee Howson) of 64 years. Loving father of Marjorie (Barb Murray), Mary Lou (Eugene Zywicki), Rod (Carole), and Scott (Marilou). Much loved grandpa to Jon (Nicole), Jeff (Laura), Kate, Jenna, Heather, Laura and Jamie, and great-grandpa to April, Kyle and Abigail. He is predeceased by his brother Douglas and sister-in-law Mary (Roy Glover) and survived by his nieces Susan, Laura and Kate. Bob lead a long and full life. His passion for sports, and in particular hockey, secured him the position of first stick boy for the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club, playing Junior A Hockey for the Ontario Hockey Association and onto playing on the University of Toronto Varsity Hockey Team. He graduated with Honours from the University of Toronto (1945) from the School of Dentistry, and after serving in WWII as a dental officer, had a successful dental practice for many years, including time spent as the dentist for the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club, a role he assumed from his father. He was an active volunteer in the Leaside community as a hockey coach and registrar with the Leaside Hockey Association, baseball coach and was a founding and honorary member of the Leaside Curling Club, where Bob and Mhora spent many years of enjoyment and were ardent competitors. Bob was elected and served as Trustee (and Chair) for the East York Board of Education, retiring in 1982, served on the Leaside Curling Club Board of Management, was a Rotarian and served as an executive member on the Upper Stoney Lake (Cottage) Association. Doc and Mhora spent countless hours playing bridge with friends and enjoying time spent with family and friends on their beloved island and cottage on Stoney Lake. We will remember his adoring spirit, sense of humour, his faultless memory and wonderful outlook on life. First we mourn and then we celebrate! The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14. At the request of Bob, a private family service will be held on Monday. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, in honour of Mhora, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. To Marjorie, Mary Lou (puddin), Rod, Scott and family - my deepest condolences,
your parents are part of my childhood at Stoney Lake, and I remember you all as children. We loved the mud dragon. My Gramma, Ada McKinnon, was first cousin of Bruce Howson. Paul Cooling (my 1st cousin) sent me this notice.

Rod, Scott and the rest of the Murray family you have my condolences. Lots of great personal memories of Doc both as my friend's dad and as my dentist. He was truly one of a kind. They don't make them like the "Doc" any more.

Scott and family, thinking of you at this difficult time. He was a really kind man and generous with his time in the community. He always kept us up to date on education issues especially if it meant we didn't have to go to school. Very hard to lose a parent at any age. My thoughts are with you.
