Robert Porter Obituary

ROBERT JAMES PORTER October 18, 1921 - August 19, 2011 Died peacefully in hospital with his son Neil by his side after suffering a heart attack a week prior while at home with his beloved wife Marjorie. He is now reunited in heaven with his friends and relatives, especially his dear little son Lance. Loving father to Janet (Robin) and Neil (Leanne) and grandfather to Spencer, Emily, Krista and Joel. Lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters Pete (Sadie), Betty (Doug), Marg (the late Art), Dorothy and the late George. He was the much loved fun uncle especially for Marilyn and Sharon and Santa Claus to the Porter family Christmas dinner. He was proudly the eldest member of Heights City Church in Pickering. Always encouraging, he will be sadly missed by the entire congregation. He was looking forward to marching at the Warrior Day parade at the Canadian National Exhibition, which he and his brother Pete never missed. The Singing Pilgrims will miss their bass singer. Funeral service to be celebrated on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Rexdale Alliance Church, 2459 Islington Ave., Toronto, at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. Private family interment at Alliston Union Cemetery. We were saddened to learn of Bob's passing. We always enjoyed his company. To us he was an extremely interesting person to be with and our only regret is that we did not see him often enough. Our prayers are with you.

Marg, Neil and Janet, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I fondly remember Mr. Porter, better known as The Candy Man! Both Bob and Marg were so good to my late grandmother, picking her up and driving her to church every Sunday for years! Bob was a shining example to all generations of the love of Jesus! He never shied away from sharing a smile and a laugh. He will truly be missed.

May God comfort the family in this time of grief.

Blessings,

Lisa (Whyte) Rayner
