ROBERT SCHMIDT

SCHMIDT (ZIVOJEVIC), ROBERT Passed peacefully, at Providence Healthcare, on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the age of 87, with his loving son, Richard, by his side. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret (2019), and his cherished son, Robert (2018). Robert was the son of Dzehva and Mujo Zivojevic. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alija and Asim, and his sisters, Murija, Vasvija, and Ziba. He is survived by his brother, Zahid. Robert was the beloved father of Richard (Andrea) and Opa to Robert's sons, Tyler and Cameron, and Richard's daughter, Isabella; he was also the dear Great-Uncle of Adel Merkez (Rea) of Zurich, Switzerland. Born in Gorazde, Yugoslavia, in 1934, as a young man, Robert escaped communist Yugoslavia to Vienna, Austria. In 1960, he immigrated to Canada and met the love of his life, Margaret Schmidt, onboard the ship while crossing the Atlantic. Together they created a wonderful life in Toronto with their two boys, Richard and Robert. Nothing made Robert more happy, proud or complete than being surrounded by his family, boating on Lake Ontario and spending time at the family cottage in the Kawarthas. Robert's friends and family will remember him as a compassionate, caring, and generous man who helped many others create a better life here in Canada. Some heroes are made in a moment. Others are defined by a lifetime. Robert will forever be lovingly remembered and missed as a hero to his son, Richard, and his family.
