Robert TORRANCE Obituary

Robert (Bob) John TORRANCE

March 18, 1937 – December 13, 2015

Passed away peacefully in his 78th year, with his wife of 55 years, Linda, by his side.  Bob, beloved father to Scott (Lori) and Paul (Katie).  Proud "Poppa" to Megan and Will Torrance. Son of Dr. J.C. Torrance and Gertrude Torrance, predeceased.   Brother to Bill (Carole) Torrance, Margaret (Dave) Pendlebury and Marian, predeceased, (Ken) Bingham.  Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. An engineer, Bob had a long and distinguished career in the design-build industry and was a joint owner of Internorth Construction Company Ltd.  In addition to his accomplished professional life, Bob was extremely involved in the Beach community.   He was an active member and leader in Kew Beach United Church.  Bob played many sports throughout his life.  In his younger days he played rugby and squash and in retirement became an avid golfer, lawn bowler and curler at the Balmy Beach Club and the Scarboro Golf & Country Club. Bob and Linda had many incredible trips to countries across the globe, but Bob's favourite place in the world was on the dock at their cottage in Port Sydney (after a day of puttering). Bob had such a positive impact in every area of his life, and with every person that he met.  His many friends, teammates, and colleagues from over the years remember him with respect, fondness and love.   His family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Disperati and all the nurses and support staff in the oncology department at Toronto East General Hospital. Friends may call at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Tuesday, January 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service on Wednesday, January 6 at 11 a.m. at Pine Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the oncology department at Toronto East General Hospital (MGH), or to Myeloma Canada would be so appreciated.

Dear Linda, my sister Sherry and I are saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He was a wonderful person and I respected him greatly. I enjoyed working with Bob on many building projects at the Toronto Auto Auction. His wisdom, integrity and cool demeanour made every project go smoothly. I know how much my mother Ruth admired and respected Bob. Through Internorth Construction, Bob helped Ruth and Homer build their first building and continued to help grow their business for many decades to follow. Our thoughts are with you and our memories of Bob will live on.
