ROBIN CHETWYND Obituary

ROBIN JOHN TALBOT CHETWYND August 21, 1941 - May 18, 2012 Our dear beloved Robin passed away peacefully on May 18, 2012 at Princess Margaret Hospital, following an inspiring and courageous journey with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends who held his hand until the end. Most importantly; he left us knowing he was loved dearly by his wife Donna Davey, his children Kimberley and Peter (Sabrina), Terri, Heather (Mike), his brothers Richard (Anne), George (Mary), and his grandchildren Shaelan, Kaesen, Coaen, Caeden, Kaili, Erin and his many nieces and nephews. Over the years, Robin's leadership, passion and creativity gave him a rewarding life in the film and television industry. Through his work with Chetwynd Films, he travelled the world capturing and sharing many memorable images in sport, nature and medicine. Most recently, Robin used his knowledge and extraordinary people skills in leadership positions at ACTRA and DGC. His intellect and generosity was a great gift to everyone. His enthusiasm for life and work was an inspiration. He enriched the lives of everyone he touched. Robin is at peace now; for us it will take some time. He will be deeply missed. A celebration of his life will take place at Rosedale United Church on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Located at 159 Roxborough Drive Toronto, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations to Princess Margaret Hospital would be appreciated. www.etouch.ca

What a loss - Robin was a true gentleman in every way, made of a fabric that is no longer to be found. It was an honour to know him as both a colleague and a friend. Sincere condolences to Donna and the family.

I was honored when as a PR person , I was asked by Robin to join Chetwynd Films as director of marketing. Robin taught me so much about the film industry and was the kindest employer I ever had . He was a gentle giant.

I was shocked to read about Robin. Too young. Too soon.
I remember him well from the Eaton's Junior Council days in the latter 1960's. The Council was comprised of representatives from Toronto high schools. What I recall was his energy and enthusiasm for life and the film industry. He was obviously going places. He certainly did that! What a career. As a member of the media I came across Robin's name numerous times over the years, but unfortunately never had the chance to reconnect. He was just too busy. What a life and legacy he has left.
My sincerest condolences to his family. The media world is sadder for his loss.

Robin and I worked together representing people working in Alberta's motion picture industry. We quickly became friends and I gained a lot of repect for Robin, who was always ready stand up for "the little guy". His sharp wit and insightful nature made him a very higly regarded, important figure in our industry. You will be sorely missed my dear friend. Much love to Donna and family.

I am saddened to learn of Robin's passing. I had nothing but admiration and respect for the courage and dignity that Robin exhibited during his illness. Last year I was miss-diagnosed with the same affliction that finally did him in. Even though I did not know him well, I turned to him for support. He gave it to me sincerely and generously. His joy on learning that I did not have cancer was heartfelt. My condolences to Donna and family.

Robin was a most passionate and thoughtful man who dedicated much of his time and energy in making Alberta a better place to practice the art and craft of visual story telling. I worked with Robin on various issues through the Alberta Film Advisory Council for several years and he is missed by all of us.

I had the privilege of working at Chetwynd Productions with Robin at the very start of my career, and it was the best film school anyone could ever attend. Robin gave me great opportunities and tremendous trust, and he and Donna treated me like one of the family from day one. We spent a great deal of time together in those days, working, sailing, working some more. He was a great mentor and I often think of those early days in Toronto with fondness.
He set me on my way in the film business and I will always be grateful to the Chetwynd family, Robin especially. My deepest sympathies to Donna, Kim, Peter, Terri, Heather and the family.

Robin and I were friends for many years. We met while working on the Player's GM Motorsport Series together in 1987, he doing our television, I looking after the series administration. I came to respect Robin as a straight shooter, his word always his bond his counsel and good cheer always welcome and so valuable. We shared stories and wine and we sailed together. Robin was one of the good guys, the really good guys. We will miss him. Cathy and I extend our deepest sympathies to Donna and his family.

So sorry to hear of Robin's passing. It is hard to fathom how the years have past, and that we are all nearing those twilight years. I too have had the pleasure of working with Robin both during his years with Chetwynd Films and later as we shared many strategy sessions during his tenure with the Directors Guild here in Alberta. I enjoyed the many hours of stimulating conversation. Rest well old friend, you will be missed...

Words cannot even begin to express my sorrow my dearest friend, sister. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear right now, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared between you and your father comfort you now and in the days and months ahead. I love you and want to let you know that I am here for you anytime you need me. xoxoxo
