ROD MASON Obituary

ROD MASON In loving memory of our beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather who passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2014 at the age of 81. Rod is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne (nee Taylor). Rod retired as Superintendent of Personnel for the Scarborough Board of Education in 1987, following an accomplished career as a teacher, vice-principal and principal. Rod and Anne resided in Pickering and also at their summer home in Baysville, Ontario. Rod will be remembered by family and friends for his unceasing optimism, support, kindness, patience and for always being the consummate gentleman. He loved people, lived life to the fullest and always took the time to listen to everyone, even people he had just met. He loved to laugh and could find humour in any situation. "Thanks for the Memories." Forever loved and sadly missed by wife Anne, brother Jim Mason (Bel), Jeanne Huffman, predeceased, (Gerald), daughters Carrie Harris (Rod), Jennifer Smith (David) and five grandchildren Shannon, Natalie, Mason, Jordan and Jeneva. Family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home (28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax, 905-428-8488) on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the chapel on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 3 p.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the service. It was with great sorrow that I learned of Rod's sudden death. I had the privilege of working with Rod during our years at the Board. He was not only a great administrator, he was kind and caring - a good friend and a gentleman in every sense of the word. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

We have just heard about the passing of Rod. Our hearts are saddened. We had the pleasure of knowing Rod and Anne and his beautiful family when we lived in Baysville. What a guy!! I can think of so many amazing things about him. Truly one of the good ones. Our thoughts are with Anne, the girls and his grandchildren whom he adored. Sincerely Mardi and Don

It is my joy in life to find
At every turning of the road,
The strong arm of a comrade kind
To help me onward with my load.
And since I have no gold to give,
And love alone must make amends
My only prayer is, while I live,
God, make me worthy of my friends.

It was with great sadness that we heard about dear Rod. A finer gentleman we have never met. A true friend with a sense of humour and a "gift of the gab". We will remember him often and always as he made a real contribution to our life, and to all who met him,in Baysville. We will pray for Anne as she continues her struggle with out his caring hand and warm and comforting smile.

I extend my sincere sympathy to Anne and family. I was a long-time colleague of Rod's in the Scarborough of Education. He was one of the best educators and finest person in the history of the Board. He will be sadly missed.

I had the experience many years ago of being envied by those in other boards for having a superintendent like Rod who was friendly and approachable to everyone no matter what their position or status was in the board. He left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
