Roger was always one to provide sage advice about communication and about life. I learned a lot from him. Among the most delightful experiences with Roger were the fine dining evenings at IABC conferences. Roger has been missed in recent years and will continue to be missed. Thanks to him for some fond memories.

As a friend and mentor, Roger played a significant role in my development as a communicator.

We met in 1976 at the IABC Conference in Denver and he immediately decided I should assume an active role in the organization. He was relentness, phoning me every week or so, until I was hooked.

Roger's legacy includes the establishment 30 years ago of the strong and vibrant London, Ontario chapter. We worked hard to live up to his expectations. He would be proud of us today.

Roger was a builder of IABC in Canada and influenced the development of the organization worldwide.

I am eternally grateful for Roger's confidence in me and for the support he gave me through the years.

I remember meeting Roger at one of the first IABC conferences I attended. He was great to those of us who were new to IABC and the conference. Lavonne and I send our condolences to his family, and we treasure our friendship with him.

Roger 'adopted' me at my first IABC conference in Yellowknife 1977. IABC was new to me. I hadn't joined and was checking it out. I am still a member of IABC and Roger's generosity and friendship in Yellowknife was a career changer for me. He was always available for sound, down-to-earth counsel and always ready to swap ideas over a beer. He later conducted the first communication audit for me at Syncrude in 1980. His recommendations are still guiding principles for Syncrude's internal communications today. We were not fooled by his short stature and unassuming character. He was a giant in our profession and his influence will continue for many years to come. Thank you Roger; it was a privilege to call you colleague and friend.

Roger always seemed to have a finger on the pulse of what really mattered in life. He will be remembered fondly as the mentor's mentor.

Roger was an active member of the Toronto chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators for many years where he regularly mentored new communicators. Recognized as a Master Communicator, he was also a past president of the local chapter and served on the district and international boards. His quiet, caring demeanor will be missed.

Roger was so kind to me when he took me under his wing many years ago, sharing his wisdom about the working world and how it communicates...or doesn't...along with his love for jazz. I always think of him when I play my Fred Astaire tracks...I thought he was "just" a dancer until Roger opened my ears. I will always appreciate having known Roger and will always remember him with great fondness. My condolences to his family and friends.

Roger was a lighthouse for many of us in the communications community of IABC. He was generous with his talents, frank with his feedback and tireless in his volunteer commitments. Roger turned even the most challenging volunteer voyage into a valuable lesson of life. No assignment was too tough.

He was the first IABC "legend" that I met. His star status matched his welcoming & encouraging outlook. By holding the helm beside him, many of us became better communicators and people.

As we celebrate Roger's life, may his legacy continue lighting the way for a life that matters.
