RONALD BEST Obituary

RONALD BEST On April 25, 2014 at 11:50 a.m. Ronald Best, my beloved husband of 58 years passed away peacefully at Trillium Mississauga Hospital. Loving husband to Ardythe (nee Halcrow) and much loved father of Rhonda (Eric Sopta), Joanne and Brenda (Chris Brockbank). Proud poppa of Spencer, Emily, Adam, Rebecca, Hayden and Hunter. Ron was the son of David and Alice Best (deceased) and the brother of Pastor Walter Best (deceased) (Eleanor) and Alec Best. A self-made man and all-round success story, Ron left high school early to start work as a mail boy at General Electric in Peterborough. Taking every course the GE management program offered, he rose through the ranks for 26 years rising to Vice-President. In 1981 he joined Rubbermaid Canada where he was quickly promoted to President. In 1986 Ron transferred to Rubbermaid's head office in Wooster, Ohio to assume responsibility for international operations and given the opportunity to travel the world. After 8 years, he accepted the position of President and CEO of Totes International in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ron retired in 1994 and we began enjoying six months annually in our home in Sarasota and six months at our cottage on Georgian Bay. Ron and I enjoyed having our family visit us in both of our homes, enjoying the beach, sightseeing, golf and many trips to Disney World. Ron was in his element as a grandfather, reverting to child-like behaviour as much as possible. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather; we are all so proud to have loved him and been loved by him. Ron struggled valiantly with Dementia with Lewy Body Disease for the past two years and we'd like to thank our caregiver, Jeanette and our good friends, Diann and Frank Wilson who gave up their winter in Florida to come north and help care for Ron and me. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St. (Hwy. 10, North of the QEW), Mississauga, on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 form 9:30 a.m. until time of the service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Donations to The Salvation Army in lieu of flowers would be much appreciated. Ardythe and Family, My sincerest condolences to you at this time. As Gordon Wright outlined in the guest book I too had the pleasure of working with Ron at Rubbermaid Canada in the 1980's. Ron in my opinion was the prime example of what a great leader should be, inspiring, professional and honest. I will fondly remember the fun and achievements and most importantly how he influenced me to try and live up to his principles and manner. Thank you Ron!

Ardythe: My sincere sympathy to you and your family on your loss. Ron was a great boss to all of us in the Finance area at Camco and I especially enjoyed my time with him as we joked about him locking the shortbread in the liquor cabinet every year at Christmas. I was never 100% sure he really did it, but it provided some fun and it made my effort in making the shortbread each year for him that much more enjoyable. I always enjoyed receiving his payment while he was at Rubbermaid of some of the new products. I'm sorry we never got together following the "Old Farts' Lunch" to make arrangements for me to collect the empty cookie tins he said he had saved for me.

Sincere condolences Ardythe and family. I had the pleasure of knowing Ron during his Rubbermaid days as President. There never was a kinder, thoughtful and amazing man like Ron. I had the privilege of calling him my friend, I know he is resting in peace and happy in the company of our Lord.

Sincerely, Bruna Ingrassia and family.
