Ronald WRIGHT Obituary

Ronald Earle WRIGHT

August 14, 1931 – April 10, 2017

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ronald, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Predeceased by his son Robin and his wife Sylvia, loving father to Jeff, Ron and Anita, Jerry and Susan, cherished Grandfather to Jennifer, Chris, Hayley, Maddie and Ryan. Ron will be fondly remembered for his devotion and love of family. He was a consummate leader and organizer in the community in a variety of endeavours. As a teacher and administrator with the TDSB, he was dedicated to the welfare of his students academically, physically and socially. He was a respected coach and participant in numerous sports. He was always advocating to us to strive to do our best. We will fondly remember his days with the "Turtles", the "Old Boys", the "Fishing Club" and his desire to improve his golf game. Ron was one of the founding members and a keen participant of the Toronto Choristers, which is comprised of retired TDSB teachers and staff. He was recently added to the list of Lifetime Members for his contributions to the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. Visitation will be held at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Monday, April 17th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Norway Church, Kingston Rd. and Woodbine, on Tuesday, April 18th, at 1 p.m. A celebration of his life will follow at the Balmy Beach Club (foot of Beach Ave.), immediately following the service. My sister has just informed me, too late for the funeral, of Ron's death and I am so sorry that I was not able to show my deep respects in person as I often think of him and his example as an educator. Ron Wright was my Gr 7 teacher at Wellesley PS in 1954-55 and an inspirational one too. He was strict in a fair and friendly way and was well loved by all of his students. It was fun to be in his class and we also got to sing our hearts out. I remember going to visit him at Church St. PS when my sister was there. I also attended his retirement party with some other members of our class at Sutton Place Hotel and again we gathered with him at a pub one night some years ago. I also taught in the TBE and TDSB for my entire career and tried to emulate Ron's impact on his students. My condolences to the family for your great loss.

To Ron's family.
My condolences on the loss of your dear Dad. He was a force to be reckoned with during our teaching and administrative years with the TBE. Athletic teams in competition, co-operation in the PSGAA and PSAA made for both humorous and interesting times. The only person who ever got away with calling me Suzy-q. My heart hurts for your loss.

I am saddened by the passing of Mr. Ron Wright. My condolences to his family. Mr. Wright was my grade 8 teacher at Williamson Road/Glen Ames PS, and my very favourite teacher of all time. He made each and every day of grade 8 the best of my public school years. How he put up with my antics along with Franny Hare, I will never know, but he did! He also advised me on my career path and I took his advice seriously. Recently I was fortunate to visit Mr. Wright in the hospital along with Ingrid Lentine (Sawaski) and Frannie Yocum (Hare). What a wonderful visit it was recounting our days together so long ago. I will miss knowing you are gone from our world Ron, but your spirit carries on in the lives of so many whom you touched. With gratitude - Maggie Bras(Margaret Anne Reid)

How can this be? Ron Wright was a force of life, right from his birth. As a young man he played in the New York Rangers farm system, quite a feat in the days of the Original Six. When he started his teaching career in Hester How, just about every girl in the school had a crush on this good looking new teacher. His career advanced rapidly, with all his leadership skills and intelligence. He and I shared many things: we together taught summer school Special Ed courses for the Ministry. We both worked under the legendary principal Marjorie Moore. We played hockey and softball together, although I was no match for his talent. He was my superintendent when I retired. A true force of life. It's hard to understand that he is gone, but that force of life will live on in countless stories and recollections from his countless friends. My sympathy to his family.

Will always remember Ron as a leader in the public school system. Though I went to Kew Beach Ron was a leader at Williamson Road in music and sports. He put the kids first. May the light of Christ shine upon you.

When I focus on my days at Wellesley P.S. I am instantly drawn to memories of a young teacher who had a trendies impact on me. Mr Wright was our leader in so many ways. He had a tremendous iimpact on my career path. He was one of two teachers that I tried to model in my decision to become an educator. His involvement in so many ways with his students will always be remembered.

When I think back to days at Williamson Road P.S., I always think of Mr. Wright. He spent numerous hours conducting the choir which happened to go on for a few years to take first place at the Kiwanis Festival. Once, he let a few of us wash his car at my house. We did a terrible job but he gave us a little money anyway. I have only fond memories of him.

When i think back as a young kid at public school in the Beach I will always remember Ron Wright. When pitching for the City championship in Baseball Ron was the umpire. When i thought it was a strike Ron called BALL! I immediately challenged him "he quickly threw of his mask and said Johnny one more obstruction and your out of the Game!" He made it clear he was "rightly in charge". My lesson well learned. . Years later fondly remember him welcoming me to the Club and played many hockey games and shared a beer. One of the most contributing persons to the Beach community, school board, teachers and of course Balmy Beach Club. Ron passed along all those admirable qualities to his family. Thinking of you to-day Ron and Ron junior who i also think fondly off. My thoughts as well and (Elaine's) to all your family and club members.
