ROSE HART Obituary

ROSE VIOLET HART Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2014 in her 87th year. She was predeceased by her brothers, Albert Edward and Charles Kenneth (Kenny) Hart, her sisters, Irene Ellenora and Lillian Constance Hart and her parents, Charles Albert and Ellen Sophie Anderson Hart. Born and raised in Daylesford, Saskatchewan, Rose completed her high school education in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan; and then, true to the determined and directed fashion in which she conducted her whole life, and despite the difficult times in 1946, went directly to Success Business College in Regina. Rose found secretarial work immediately upon completion of college, first at Gladwell, Wilson & Co. and then with Federated Petroleums, Ltd. in Calgary. Ever self-confident, she made the big move from Canada's mid-west to Toronto, Ontario, in 1957, where she began a long and distinguished secretarial career with Falconbridge Nickel Mines. Her first three years were spent as an assistant in the office of the head of the Geophysical and Geological Department, but her careful work and lightning-fast typing and shorthand abilities were clearly evident and she was quickly promoted. She then spent 15 successful years working for the Vice-President of Corporate Affairs. Here again, her efficiency and skill resulted in further appointments: first in 1977 as Executive Secretary in the Corporate Affairs Department and then as Administrative Assistant in the Legal Department in 1985. In the course of her Falconbridge career Rose was fond of saying that she always loved her job and that she "couldn't imagine doing anything else". After 33 loyal years of service, Rose retired from Falconbridge in 1990. Rose's small stature belied her larger life. Ever devoted to the Hart family, she had her mother come to live with her in Toronto after the passing of her father and she always maintained close ties with her brother, Al, his wife, Mae, and their five children. To the delight of all, Rose--or Bud as her brother playfully called her--shared much time and many Hart family celebrations with them. Her nieces and nephew fondly recall special outings where she graciously and tolerantly shuttled them about in her early edition VW beetle. Rose was a very talented needleworker and took great pleasure in creating and gifting many of her beautifully embroidered pieces. She adored the challenge of intricate jigsaw puzzles and was also an avid stamp collector. "Aunty Rose" was an inspiration to the Hart children; she was always cheerful - the model of a single, successful career woman who so capably provided for herself, cared for her mother and saw the wider world through a series of treasured holiday travelling adventures with her sister, Irene, as well as her very dear friend, Marg. Rose is lovingly remembered by all who knew her. In keeping with Rose's wishes, a private cremation has taken place and her ashes will be interred during the summer of 2014 in the Humboldt Public Cemetery, close to her sister, Lillian, her brother, Albert and their father, Charles Albert Hart.
