Rudolf Mathias BARTLING

1936 - 2021

BARTLING, Rudolf Mathias (Rudy) Passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, September 8, 2021 in Oshawa, ON. Rudy was born on February 2nd, 1936 in Bonn, Westphalia, Germany, where he trained as a class A auto mechanic at Fleischaur, Germany. Rudy arrived in Canada in 1957, accepting a position at Volkswagen Canada. After leaving Volkswagen Canada he worked for several years in California. When he returned to Canada he was a partner in Petdorf Performance and Prep Shop, as well as owning Bartling Motorsports. He started his automobile racing career in 1960, racing in many countries and continued competing until he retired from racing in 2000. Following retirement he achieved the distinction of being inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2011. Rudy is survived by his loving wife Beverley (Reid), his son Dr. Richard Bartling, daughter-in-law Dr. Karin Bartling, grandchildren Raifton and Leilah Bartling of Midland, MI; Dr. Mandolin Bartling of Toronto, as well as extended family Greg (Chryssi) Bowen and Brayden Reid of Newmarket; Stephen (Digna Pabillore) and Joshua Reid of Oshawa and Aurora; Jennifer, John, Mara, Kosta and Zoe Tsatsos of Oshawa. His sister Irmgard Preissmann-Jung, nephew Dr. Kai Preissmann (Doris) and great-niece Ava Preissman, niece Anka Vehlen (Heinz) Dennis, niece Petra Braun (Hans-Rolf Theissen) great-niece Jenny Baum (Matthias) and their children Jakob, Jonathan and Juna, all of Germany. A special thank you to Rudy's dear and devoted friend, Kye Wankum. Predeceased by his parents, Maria Johanna (Hanna Scheidhauer) and August Heimrich Bartling, brother Manfred, sister Ursula Braun and her husband Karl Heinrich Braun, niece Claudia Braun, niece Andreas Lange, her husband Guenter and brothers-in-law Rolf Preissmann and Bert Jung. Visitation will be held at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (1587 Hwy. 2, Courtice, ON.) on Saturday, September 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. If you wish to attend the visitation for Mr. Bartling, please be aware that proof of double vaccination will be required.
