Ruth POWERS Obituary

POWERS, Ruth (nee WATSON) December 9, 2020 We are deeply saddened by the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Ruth Georgina Powers (nee Watson) on December 9, 2020, aged 98, at the St. Vincent - Langara Long-Term Care Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Her first 65 years were spent in Ontario. Raised in various cities in Ontario, she spent her young life with her Dad, Peter; Mom, Beatrice; and brother Bill. As a young woman, she married James and worked as a nurse for over 40 years in Toronto while they raised 5 children (Maureen, Colleen, Michael, Tim and Bill), who bestowed them with 8 grandchildren (Bridget, Sunanda, Gabe, Jeff, David, Dylan, Malaya and Shiel) and 3 great-grandchildren (Charlie, Rupert and Lincoln). Mom and Dad retired to BC in 1986. Mom enjoyed and was active in her community of False Creek and since 1997, after Dad's passing, lived independently and actively there until her 96th year. We will always remember her candour, honesty, independence, generosity, and as a hard working and loving person. She will be greatly missed by her family. Thanks to all the staff at St. Vincent - Langara for the care and support they have provided to Mom this past year. Oh and one last thing – the most important – we dearly love you Ruth.

My mom was a fellow lawn bowler with Ruth at South Granville. I was lucky enough to meet her while living at the coop in False Creek- she was always so sweet to both my mother and I- and we appreciated her hard work ethic and bright personality. Ironically we were just talking about her today. Sending her family warm wishes.

Condolences to all . What a great lady. Ruth always brought guidance with warmth and humor to me as a young guy growing with son Tim in Toronto. Her fun visits to Victoria always brought a smile. I was so fortunate to know her, RIP Ruth,
