RUTH WINTERS Obituary

WINTERS, RUTH ELEANOR 1930 - 2023 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Eleanor Winters at Markham Stouffville Hospital, on Monday, January 23, 2023, in her 93rd year. Loving daughter of the late Gerald and Mildred Vincent of Picton; and predeceased by her loving husband, Burton (2017). Ruth began her teaching career in Prince Edward County in 1955, and continued her career in Scarborough as an art supervisor and principal until her retirement in 1989. Following her retirement, Ruth enjoyed framing many of Burt's paintings. Ruth was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Picton Chapter #273, and always was proud of her county roots. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and relatives. A reception will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 1 - 3 p.m., and friends may call at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham. Interment will take place in the family plot at Cherry Valley Cemetery, Prince Edward County. If desired, memorial donations to Markham Stouffville Hospital or to a Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Homes, Picton Chapel.

My sincere condolences. I had Mrs. Winters at Hunters Glen in Scarborough. She was the best teacher ever although she did not put up with nonsense and also taught me wonderful penmanship

Thanks Ruth for the many wonderful memories....Christmas in your home, my first holiday to Great Britain, camping at Sandbanks, rail to B.C., high tea at The Empress Hotel, motoring in Nova Scotia, courses together at York and OISE, barbecues in your backyard, Florida at Christmas, snowshoeing at Tam O´Shanter, going for an ice cream cone, innumerable meals at the Swiss Chalet, watching the first lunar landing, having coffee together and so many more memories.
Ruth was always direct and confident in her approach to teaching, university assignments, decorating her home, coaching teachers and whatever else she set her mind to do.
I will deeply miss Ruth and always remember the fond memories I shared with Ruth and Burt for 57 years.
