Sandra O'Connor Obituary

SANDRA ANNE O'CONNOR B.A., B.Sc., M.D., CCFP(EM), FCFP August 9, 1958 - October 27, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Dr. Sandra Anne O'Connor on October 27, 2011 at Princess Margaret Hospital. Dearly beloved partner of Barry Allen, beloved daughter of Antony I. O'Connor and Joan Patricia (predeceased November 23, 2001). Loving sister to Paul (Lyne), Karen Boctor (Stal predeceased September 4, 2011), Mark, Philip (Sandy) and a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews whom she enjoyed thoroughly. Sandra was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where she received her medical degree. She was an Emergency Room doctor at St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton and St. Catherine's General Hospital where she treated all of her patients with great skill, warmth and compassion. She was also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, an Oral Examiner for the College of Family Physicians (EM) and a consulting doctor for KMH. Sandra had a bright Irish smile and was known for her great listening ear, her kindness and generosity. She had a quick wit, a wonderful laugh and was the life of the party wherever she went. Her greatest pleasure was fine dining, being in the company of friends and family and travelling the world on biking holidays. Sandra's passing is a tremendous loss to her family, friends and colleagues. Life will never be quite the same. Private burial at the request of the family.

Godspeed Sandra. I was deeply saddened to hear of this, and it is a great loss to all of those whom you had provided excellent compassionate care to, and to those whom you should have had the opportunity to care for. I hope that your family finds some peace in dealing with an undescribable loss.

Dear Sandra: I had no idea. Karen, if you get this note I am shocked. I had trouble finding Sandra in the latter years. I am praying and remembering our years together at University. With love Carrie Fitzsimons

I hope there were medical staff involved in Dr. O'Connor's care, half as kind as she was to all her patients in St.Catharines.I have memories of her patiently sitting giving reassurance, support and sharing her wisdom with compassion and always with a sense of humour. Her beautiful smile will be missed.
I am grateful I got to see her in May, when she was so happy to be back working at Urgent Care.
With heartfelt sympathy to her family.

I recall with great fondness my time singing alongside Sandra at Nelson High School. I'm grateful for having had the chance to reconnect with her recently after all these years. She was a bright light of fun and compassion and will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies to her family.
