Sandra PITTERS Obituary

PITTERS, Sandra Lynn It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Pitters. Her family meant the world to her and were her greatest gift. She was the proud and loving mother of Glenn, Lisa (Jeff), Angel, and Jason (Kathi). Her grandchildren Kurt, Kolt (Glenn), Christian, Brianna and Kiarra (Angel), Karlie and Mattea (Lisa) and Emily, Mitchell and Maxwell (Jason) brought joy to her life every day and she was never tired of hearing of their achievements. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren and her loving brother Wayne (Donna), nephew (Steve), niece (Kim) and her family. Sandra had a broad definition of family and took pride in helping others. She was a good friend, knew how to listen and saw the best in everyone. Her friendship will be sorely missed by those who knew her. She volunteered with youth organizations throughout her younger adulthood and supported children through Plan Canada for many years. She was a long-standing member of St. Marks United Church in Whitby. She was the epitome of compassion and hard work. Her working life was spent as a nurse, a healthcare manager and for many years as a senior executive managing a large municipal long-term care organization. She worked to strengthen long-term care through her involvement in many provincial organizations, task forces and steering committees. She valued her multiple awards for her leadership in long-term care and as a key contributor in developing an educational program to guide emerging long-term managers. She was a lover of books and of spending time with family. She was most content with a good book, a sunny day, a cup of tea and a chair in the shade, which was made even better if she could watch the kids play in the pool. As per her wishes, no public services will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations would be appreciated to Plan International Canada, Canadian Red Cross, The War Amps or Heart & Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be expressed at wctownfuneralchapel.com.

My deepest condolences to the family for your loss .
Sandra definately was a very special person and leader.
Sandra hired me at CWT in 1986 to run programs and care for the Elderly. She had great vision and commitment for the Home, the Staff and our Residents.....Sandra was an exemplary leader, She was professional , intelligent, passionate and approachable , and was a very warm and caring person . Sandra was a mentor for all of us who worked and served in Long Term Care- raising the bar of care, team work, committees , and accountability- Our commitment and work mattered. It was rich and fulfilling-
I am so grateful to have walked with Sandra on the same path for a time- Her contribution and service benefited so many lives in so many different ways and remains very meaningful. It really is quite a Legacy .

I worked with Sandra for several years as part of the City of Toronto's LTC division and nearly 25 years as an Accreditation Surveyor for Accreditation Canada. Sandra was a disciplined leader and mentor to me and many others. She was a tireless advocate for seniors both in Toronto and across this country. She led by example - and that was a tough example to follow! I won't easily forget her.
