Sandy, Gerry and Joanna at Philadelphia Folk Festival

Gerry Hawes

February 1, 2019

Sandy was a wonderful friend and travel companion. The two of us made numerous trips to Philadelphia Folk Festival over the years, spending lots of time together on the road, talking about life, family, music, politics and everything else under the sun. She loved going to Philly and really enjoyed meeting up with our mutual friends down there, especially Joanna Vaughan, who is pictured with Sandy and I in the photo.

I met Sandy about twenty years ago at Mariposa Folk Festival, another one of her passions, and we became fast friends. For the past many years, until she moved to Orillia, Sandy was one of the collection of friends and family that descends upon my place every Mariposa weekend. After her move to Orillia, she continued coming over at the end of each festival day for the 'official debrief', which involves libation, laughter and very late hours.

During the past couple of years, Sandy has been a regular fixture at our place in Orillia, and a good friend to my Mom and neighbour, Peter, both of who recently predeceased her. Sandy will be sadly missed at our family functions and regular Saturday evening dinners.
