I am deeply saddened that Shashi is no more. I came to know him well during my years at U of T as a graduate student in the '60s. I still have fond memories of my visits to his place and the very enjoyable conversations with Janet and Shashi during my summer visits to U of T in '74, '75 and '76. I admired his dynamism and and leadership qualities. He will be missed by generations of his students and coworkers. My deepest condolences to Janet and all his near and dear ones. May his soul rest in peace.

I was lucky to work with Shashi on a project and learned a great deal from him. He was an excellent teacher who would encourage technical discussions, listen to everyone and then put his point forward. He had a great sense of humour. He will surely be missed in the Power Electronics community.

Sorry to hear about passing away of Shashi Bhushan Dewan, passing of an era as one of his student has put it.

In a way we were quite close since I had spent some time at the University of Toronto before returning a couple of years later to become a PhD student of Shashi's. Somehow when I moved to the other end of Canada I never had much further contact apart from the time he visited Vancouver to promote Inverpower.

Really Shashi is the main reason I stayed in Canada and has been the inspiration for my own industrial experiments. I am sorry I waited too long for that exchange of notes. He had a strong character which I respected and as one of the people who really made a difference in power electronics he will be missed.

I am sure that I speak for many of my professional colleagues in the international power electronics community when I express my deepest sympathy to Shashi's family and friends at hearing this sad news. Shashi was one of the early giants of the modern solid-state power electronics field who earned near-universal respect of both academic and industry professionals around the world for his unique combination of technical and entrepreneurial skills.

I had the good fortune to come of age in this field almost simultaneously with the publishing of Shashi's book "Power Semiconductor Circuits" in 1975. It is a book which has stood the test of time and still remains as a valuable reference book on my shelf today. I was continually impressed by Shashi's ability to excel at the interface between the academic and business worlds. There are only a few others I have known during my professional career who have come close to demonstrating Shashi's unique combination of skills that permitted him to succeed so well in both worlds - simultaneously.

Although it has been several years since I last met Shashi at an IAS Annual Meeting, I will never forget both his quick wit and good humor. I feel privileged to have known him, and I am certain that the global power electronics community will never forget him. He was a very special person.

With deepest sympathy,

My deepest sympathies on your loss. Dr. Dewan was inspirational. Technically speaking, he certainly was one of a kind and an obvious icon in our industry. His drive, passion, savvy, and enthusiasm were contagious. He inspired many of us professionally, and helped spur us on toward subsequent business interests that were rooted originally in a relationship with him. He was a true entrepreneur. I am thankful for having worked with him, and having the benefit of his willing advice. We will certainly miss him.

I worked for Shashi shoulder-shoulder from 1984-1988 at InverPower Controls. I learned more from Shashi than anyone else in my career as a power electronics specialist.

But he also shaped my life, my career, and my personality in many ways I cannot begin to express. He has done the same for countless others.

He had an infectious and unique characteristic laugh that I will never forget, nor will anyone else that knew him.

Shashi's incredible drive, intensity, creativity, and zest for conquering world-class technical, and business challenges was second to none.

Those who worked closely with him learned quickly that he had a kind, sensitive and generous heart.

The world today now benefits from the students and colleagues who are at the top of their disciplines as a result of Shashi's influence in their lives.

I am grateful for having had the honor of his mentorship; the opportunities he created; and the fond memories of many challenges and successes shared.

Thank you Shashi. God bless you.I will miss you dearly.
