SHIRLEY McGUCKIN Obituary

McGUCKIN, SHIRLEY Peacefully passed, on Monday, October 24, 2022, in Toronto, at the age of 86. Beloved wife for 51 years to her late husband, Vivian Francis. Loving mother to Rory (Lisa), Sean (Dina - deceased), Christopher (Paulette) and Michael (Denise). Proud grandmother to Jordan, Ryan, Mark, Connor, Luke, Alexandra, Aidan, Carly, Sonya, Liam, Owen and Jameson. Proud great-grandmother to Claire and Madeleine. Sister to David (deceased), and dear aunt to Molly and many other nieces and nephews. Shirley was born in Bath, England, and later moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where she met her husband, Vivian, in university. They both became educators, with postings in the Bahamas and England, before setting sail to Canada in August 1963 to start a new life and raise a family of four boys. Shirley was an elementary teacher and later a teacher-librarian, for the Metropolitan Separate School Board. Shirley was most proud of her large family and always took a keen interest in all the children's and grandchildren's education and other pursuits. Nothing brought her more joy than spending family time together with her children and grandchildren. Shirley had a positive impact on everyone she met. She was genuine, caring, loving, intelligent, strong, social, and always made you feel welcomed. Shirley loved to read, garden and stay up late to finish a cryptic crossword, play games like candy crush or watch a favourite show. She had a keen interest in travel, cruising around the world to places like Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. Shirley especially loved meeting with her friends from St. Simon C.S. and her Canadian Federation of University Women group, usually over a delicious meal. She will be dearly missed by all her family and her many, many friends. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.), on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 3055 Bloor St. W., west of Royal York Rd., on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 11 a.m. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Sincere gratitude to the caring staff at Toronto Western Hospital.
