SIMON MONK Obituary

MONK, SIMON Simon Monk, 64, of Toronto, passed away on October 21, 2022, surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy battle with cancer. Son of Michael and Rosalee, brother to Hilary and Adam, he is survived by his children, Rachel and Joshua. Among his accomplishments, he was most proud of being Six Sigma Black Belt certified, being a 15-year veteran of the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and not letting cancer stop him from enjoying and supporting jazz. Activities he most enjoyed were cycling, skiing, and statistics jokes. He will be much missed for his humour and kindness, incredible courage and tenacity, and devotion to family. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mt. Pleasant Rd. (East gate entrance), on Sunday, November 6th, from 1-4 p.m. If desired, donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. I knew Simon through his Mom Rosalee and Dad Michael. While I heard from them the struggles he went through, he was steadfastly curteous and charming.
May he Rest in Peace.

Simon and I were classmates at Northern Secondary They were
the best of times.Being in the concert, jazz and orchestra bands together we had great times. The best were the times we played at football games at home or away games in " The Rubber Ducky Non Marching Band" After high school we go our separate ways and move along in the part of life. Then 10 years later Simon came to Litton Systems where I was working, what a surprise. This gave us a chance to reconnect
After his time at Litton ,again we lost touch Our lives went forward as life does. Then we reach today I was sad to hear of his passing .My deepest condolences to you . Simon was fun caring compassionate and someone you would want as a friend. And boy could he play that Trombone . Sincere condolences to you Joshua and Rachel.

I met Simon through the Ride to Conquer Cancer. We enjoyed the Humber College Jazz Concerts, visits in his backyard and listening to Jazz. His courage, kindness sense of humour and never giving up are qualities I so admired in Simon. I will ride on with two yellow flags.

Many of us will remember Simon with respect and appreciation for his genuinely kind gentle nature. Simon generously shared his time, cycling skills and knowledge with members of our cycling club. We admired his positive attitude, courage and determination. Even while facing his own health challenges, Simon continued to contribute to and support charity fund-raising for causes that he cared deeply about such as the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
Simon, you contributed to helping others. You have left this world a better place because you were in it.
With our admiration, appreciation and respect.
Your friends, Toronto Bicycle Club Members

I have many fond memories of Simon- among them, our weekend at Bud's cottage with his kids and my son. S'mores in the fireplace, board games and enjoying the lake. Most of all, I'll remember his brilliant trombone playing for all of those wonderful years having him as a key member of the Hurricanes Dance Band. A man of kindness and integrity. Wishing you a beautiful journey up to Heaven, Simon, then sweet rest from the trials of the body. Warmest condolences to Joshua and Rachel.
