Slawko STOROSCHUK Obituary

STOROSCHUK, Slawko (Gerry) Passed away suddenly on May 3, 2018 in Port Severn, Ontario. He is survived by his sister Mary Kowalczuk, as well as numerous nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents John and Anna (nee Kosak) and his siblings Steve, Walter, Olga and Mike. Gerry was born on August 3, 1940 in the Municipality of Stuartburn, Manitoba. The youngest of six children, he grew up helping on the family farm. He attended Beckett Elementary School and then Stuartburn High School. At the time of his graduation from high school, there was a shortage of teachers in Manitoba and Gerry became a permit teacher in La Broquerie, Manitoba. Gerry's true interest and passion was electronics, so after a few years of teaching he applied to and was accepted to the Radio College of Canada in Toronto and subsequently moved there in 1963. After graduating, he joined the CBC where he was involved in the production of live sporting events (CFL, NHL, etc.) and numerous television programs. Gerry made many friends at CBC during his 30 years as an employee and continued these friendships through retiree's monthly luncheons. While at the CBC, Gerry developed a passion for fishing and spent much of his free time partaking in this activity. In Toronto, Gerry spent much time with his cousins the Kohuts and the extended family. After retiring in 1996, Gerry moved to a small cottage in Port Severn, Ontario, where he later built a house at the location. While there Gerry was able to feed his fishing passion, right in his backyard. After living in Port Severn for several years, Gerry decided to sell his house and moved to Midland Ontario, where he lived until his passing. While in Midland, Gerry developed a travel bug, which he fed with trips to Cuba and Ukraine many times, his last trip being to Cuba in January 2018. Gerry will be greatly missed by family and friends. A Panakhyda (Memorial Service) will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., at the UNF hall, 145 Evans Avenue, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Gerry's name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Memory Eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat!
