BLOOR, SONYA (nee UMA SONYA MENON) Age 47, passed away on January 29, 2019, after a courageous battle with triple-negative breast cancer. She was born May 8, 1971 in Kanpur, India, to Krishna Menon and Nina Arya. In 1992, after only three short months of dating, she was engaged to marry her love, Ryan Bloor. They wed on June 11, 1995 in Toronto, Canada. Sonya loved life and, above all, loved people. She would make new friends wherever she went and would exchange a smile with whomever she greeted. She loved to socialize. When planning elaborate parties or simple gatherings with family and friends, she was completely immersed and in her element. She never wanted the party to end. She cherished each of the family members and friends she was blessed to have in her life. Throughout her life, she had a passion for learning and consistently seized every opportunity to do so. She graduated with a degree in computer engineering from University of Toronto in 1999. She also sought formal education in homeopathy, naturopathy and personal training. She avidly researched any topic that interested her such as natural health or ways she could improve the life of her family. She would often pick a new challenge then learn and practice new skills until she mastered the art. She was an athlete, a painter, an interior designer, a pianist, a dancer, a chef, a baker and a cake decorator to name a few. Even during her illness, she took up pottery as a new endeavor. Her hands and mind were rarely still. She had more than one career. First, she was a flight attendant for Air Canada. She was later an accomplished computer engineer and programmer at Celestica. She then decided to stay at home to raise her children full-time. It was as a mother that she flourished in her true calling. Her love of her family was immense and was always the driver of everything she did. Her husband benefited from her friendship, support, immense positivity and everlasting love. Her children benefited from the tenderness and values she bestowed on them as well as the many opportunities she created for them to pursue music, reading, travel, cooking and gardening. In them, she fostered a love of learning and a value for family. Sonya is survived by her husband Ryan; her three children, Caelan, 18, Kannan, 15 and Arabella, 6; her father, Krishna; and her brother, Anand. Sadly, she lost her own beloved mother, Nina, to ovarian cancer in 2015. All of them she loved dearly and touched deeply. She and her mother are reunited. Please join us in a Celebration of her Life this coming May 2019, in Toronto. Details will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (
https://thepmcf.ca/Ways-to-Give/Donate-Now). Through Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, she fervently participated in and supported research into new treatments to further the fight against this terrible disease for herself and for others who would come after her. Sonya had the most beautiful smile that reflected her nature. She truly left a positive mark on the lives of everyone who knew her and will be remembered forever with smiles for her kindness, generosity and passion.
