Dear Carolyn,
Lenore and I were so very sad to hear of Steve's passing.
I wanted you and your family to know that he brightened my days at law school, made me look to him with his confident, self assured demeanor but never made me feel out of place or intimated. I keep smiling when I think of playing intramural basketball.
When I ran into Steve last at, I think Hailey's hockey game at the Rinx a few years ago, he talked about your kids in such a proud fashion, but not in a way that said my kids are better than anyone else's kids. Just in a way that said I am really honoured and amazed by their efforts. Not having seen Steve in a few years (and maybe so long ago when Jackson was a little one) I wanted you and your kids to know that, looking back, Steve's comments were of a father who was so very proud. He spoke about how pleased he was, not in a inappropriate way, just in a way that said "wow" I'm amazed and pleased, without taking any credit or anything.
Steve told me of Jackson's hockey and the extra skills sessions he was doing, while playing with the Rangers. I seem to recall that he told me of your daughter's attempts at charitable work outside of school and sports.
Steve felt truly blessed, I think.
Of course, I don't know how, day to day, Steve reacted or any intimate details of the ups and down of life and relationships, but I just wanted you to know how he spoke of your children. I know he was proud of them.
I've been thinking of Steve often of late and shaking my head. I wish I saw him more after articling and life went in the fast pace that it did. Life is too short.
I wish you, your children and extended family all the best at this time.

I knew Steve at Queens Law. He was a roommate of my husbands. I can still see the twinkle in his eye. Such a lovely guy, so intelligent and witty and never afraid to be honest and real. And such fun. I am saddened to hear of his passing. RIP
