KURYLIW, BCom.(H) Actuarial, FCIA, ACAS, CFE, STEPHEN April 2, 1923 - December 11, 2021 Passed peacefully surrounded by his offspring. Predeceased by his wife Shirley Elizabeth (nee Fergusson). Survived by his daughters Beverley Eleanor Daoud (Raef) and Agnes Louise, his two sons Geoffrey Stephen (Teresa Booth) and John MacAuley (Lucy-Jane Dennis), two granddaughters, Taylor Lee and Mackenzie Harper and two grandsons Stephen and Sean. Predeceased by his sister Stephanie, brothers Chester and Walter. Born in the hamlet of Seleschi, near Hallich (Galicia), Western Ukraine and baptized in the river Dniester. Immigrated to Canada in 1927 with his parents and two siblings to a homestead in Badger, Manitoba. Stephen joined the RCAF in 1941 and was honourably discharged in 1945. Graduated in 1951 from University of Manitoba and joined the Canadian Department of Insurance. In 1953 he met Shirley, married in Toronto in 1954 and then was posted to Winnipeg to open the Western Office of the CDI. He relocated back to Toronto in 1961 settling in Guildwood. When he left CDI in 1969 for employment with the Michigan Insurance Bureau, the family moved to Markham, which became what all would call the family home. In 1977, Stephen left Michigan, and established what would become a very successful Financial, Estate Trust and Tax Consulting service. This became the fulfilment of a lifelong purpose: helping people through financial literacy while making a living. He was in such demand and fulfilled in this career that he finally retired in 2013 at the age of ninety. Family was paramount to Stephen. The cottage in the Halburton Highands served both as a retreat and gathering place for friends and family. His garden in Markham kept him grounded to his original roots on the farm in Badger. After empty nesting Shirley and Stephen travelled extensively to Europe, the UK and Ukraine and enjoyed wintering in Florida. A Memorial service will be announced at a later date. Charitable donations in memorial to Stephen can be made to the Salvation Army of Canada. Online condolences can be made at
