Stephen Silverberg Obituary

SILVERBERG, Dr. Stephen Allan - (Born February 8, 1939 and died March 2, 2009) was a gentleman, a man of dignity and goodwill. He was a lover, a provider, a brother, a father, and a friend. A mentor, a physician, and a surgeon specializing in breast and thyroid cancer. Stephen graduated from the University of Toronto with his fellowship in General Surgery in 1970, and performed his last operative procedure in Newfoundland, in March 2008. He was many things to many people. The loving husband of Susan Campbell Silverberg for 36 years. The father who cared for Michele and Paul Goldenberg, Carrie Silverberg, Scott Silverberg and Maya Phatate, Shane Silverberg and Nicola Bywater, and grandfather to Hayley, Ari, and David. The beloved brother of his surviving siblings: twin Dr. Laurie and Suzanne Silverberg, Dr. Joseph and Audrey Silverberg, and Tema Frankel. Stephen's sense of moral fibre and integrity challenged existing norms. His main concerns in life were his family and his patients. He had the expertise to save many lives and the compassion to comfort many souls. He will live in our hearts always, as love is eternal. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (three lights west of Dufferin) for service on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stephen Silverberg Memorial Fund c/o the Benjamin Foundation, 3429 Bathurst Street, Toronto, M6A 2C3, 416-780-0324, or www.benjamins.ca

Everyone who knew and worked with Steve will agree that he was a wonderful surgeon, and a good friend to many. His caring attitude and bed-side manner are just a few of his remarkable qualities. He will be sadly missed.

My family and I will always hold a special place for him in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We are all grateful for the place Dr. Silverberg played in our lives, and thank him for his kind and gentle "bed-side" manner. His untimely death is surely a great loss to the many who do now, would have in the future, appreciatd him. Thanks, Doc.
