My deepest condolences to Steve's family and friends. I am deeply sadned to hear about Stevens passing. I knew him from Sheridan college photography program. Was looking to reconnect with him. But had lost touch with him.He was an excellent photographer from what I remember. R. I. P . Steve .

I was in Kaji-san's court-hogging foursome with Nestor and Tessie.

We would meet up at eight on Friday nights at DMTC and leave with the club supervisor at closing time.

We would meet up for bfast at Timmy's the following day, hit until it gets too hot, and break for lunch. We would play some more around three, and break for dinner by seven. We would hit again until the club closes or when the lights went out, whichever came first.

We would meet up again after lunch on Sunday, and play until six. DMTC could have charged us five membership fees each, and we would have not complained. We practically lived there.

On lunch breaks, Kaji-san would drive us to China Gourmet, or Swiss Chalet, or Harvey's. Or Memories of Japan. In the car, we would sing along to the radio; the most memorable one was to Dan Hill's Sometimes When We Touch, coz we practically sang the entire song, and coz the song was like, rock on (!). Except of course for Nestor who struggled with the lyrics. And he's tone deaf, too. Tess laughed until she cried. Not coz of the song but coz of Nestor's singing. I think.

On long weekends we would bike on the Don Valley via Edwards Gardens. Watch the Air Show on Labour Day weekend along the Lakeshore. Or run on Don Mills Trail. Our runs were synchronized to the songs Kaji-san recorded in our Nanos. Yes, I meant ipod nanos. Kaji-san could not be bothered unless you owned a nano, an ipod, an ipad, a macbook, and eventually, an iphone. Ask Ludie. No Dan Hill on our runs, though. Crying while running is weird. More so in a park. With headphones on. And when you're a grown man and you do all that, you're just totally, totally messed up! We ran to Springsteen's Born to Run and Merle Haggard's Okie from Muskogie, among others.

That was our routine for several summers.
Good times!

So when Tess, Nestor and I showed up at DMTC without him, everyone noticed. Everyone asked about him. He was everyone's friend and he was a friend to everyone (so long as you keep that Android in your pocket)*.

RIP, Kaji-san. And thank you for the memories. You will be sorely missed.

*koffee klutch crowd, excepted.
