SURESH SHENDE Mr. Suresh Narayan Shende of Guelph, Ontario, passed away at home on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. Beloved husband of Suhas (Paranjpey) Shende. Loving father of Nitin (Vasanti Nawathe) and Sameer (Kirsten Jensen). Dear brother of Sushama (Dabak) and brother-in-law of Ramesh Paranjpey, Ravindra Paranjpey and Mangal Jambhekar. Loved grandpa of Nikhil, Maithili, Ravi and Devin. He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews and cousins. Suresh was born in Mumbai, India on June 27, 1939. He was the son of two professors, Dr. Narayan Jagannath Shende and Dr. Mrs. Sarojini Narayan Shende (Athlye). He graduated First Class Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai in 1959 and he received a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of Mumbai in 1968. He earned the French Government Scholarship at the Institut international d'administration publique (IIAP), Paris, France and successfully completed the Diplôme d'administration économique et financière in 1973. He was fluent in English, French, Spanish, Hindi, Marathi and Sanskrit. He had a stellar career in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India where he rose to become the Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and ex-officio Special Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He went on to another successful career, after retiring from the Government of India, as the Interregional Adviser in Resource Mobilization, Division for Public Economics and Public Administration, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations, New York, USA. He often gave lectures at the Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA, USA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, Ontario, 519-821-5077.
