Suzanne STOKES Obituary

STOKES, Suzanne Corinne (nee GEARY) Of Oshawa, passed away peacefully on New Year's Day in her 87th year, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry. The fourth of nine sisters, she was born in Peterborough in 1935 and deeply blessed by the loving example of her parents George and Georgette (Beausoleil). A lifelong reader, she imagined a rich family life for herself and her "twinkly-eyed" Irishman, Denis Michael Benedict Stokes, who predeceased her in 2002. Together they wrote their story of abounding love and joy and humour. She is survived by her grateful children Denis (Mary), Joseph (Cathy), Neil (Tina), Annette (Michael) and Seán (Carol), her seventeen grandchildren and their partners, and her twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sisters and brothers-in-law - Rita, Georgette (Richard) and Denise (Robert) - as well as by dozens of nephews and nieces. Our mother was a remarkable woman of great generosity and razor-sharp wit. Though she will be dearly missed, her legacy will continue as her gifts of love continue to reverberate, and to sustain the lives of her many descendants. Visitation and funeral for close family by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry. Memories can be shared at www. destefanofuneralhomes.ca

I couldn't ask for a better neighbour. Two Irish ladies side by side. I was in my house for a year until Suzanne and Denis moved in. It was a strange feeling have the other half empty so was glad when they bought. Denis and I had some great chats when we were out doing our yard work. We compared notes when completing our basements. Loved when family came over to visit. Could always tell if someone was coming as I could hear Suzanne busy in the kitchen and if it was summer time she always adorned her table on the deck. (Never without her apron.) Loved hearing the laughter. Quite often I was the recipient of her lovely salads when she had leftovers and often a little surprise treat. I was always telling her how much I admired her ie out for walks most days; entertaining, etc. She always asked about my family. Suzanne was certainly blessed with a loving, supportive family and I was blessed with a great neighbour. I treasured her. My heart goes out to all of you. It won't be the same not having her living next to me. God Bless all of you. I share your grief and my prayers are with you in the coming days.

Dear Sean and family. So sorry for your loss your Mom and Dad were friends of my mom and dad Ethel and Wes Baker, at the cottage. They use to socialize. I remember your Dad Denis especially as he would often drop by and have a chat. Thinking of you at this time.
