TERENCE FLEMING Obituary

FLEMING, TERENCE November 16, 1939 - January 30, 2023 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Terence Fleming, on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Oshawa General Hospital after a brief illness following surgery. Terence leaves behind beloved wife and sweetie of over 60 years, Patricia (Pat). Terence was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Charles Fleming, who provided a wonderful upbringing in England despite their both being deaf. Terence learned both sign language and lip reading and was proficient at both until his passing. He also leaves behind to mourn his sister, June Bole (Alan) and their children, Amanda and Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Susan Seddon (Frank) and their children, Richard and Sarah; brother-in-law, Barrie Kendall (Gail); sister-in-law, Janet Watson (Keith) and their children, Amie and Daniel. Terence and Pat met in 1958 at one of Muriel Riley's Saturday night dances where Terence swept Pat off her feet. After courting and wooing Pat they married in 1962 and enjoyed a full, happy and healthy life for over 60 years. Terence gained his BSC in Engineering in England and early in his career worked on the BAC Concord, an aeronautical and engineering marvel in it's day. In 1965, Terence and Pat moved to Canada to start a new adventure together. Upon hearing of the wonderful life Terence and Pat were making for themselves they were soon followed to Canada by several friends who have remained close all their lives. Not finding satisfaction in Engineering, in 1969 Terence decided to change careers and began teaching Math initially at Sr. John A. Macdonald High School and then Campbell Collegiate. It was during Terence's teaching career that Terence and Pat spent an exciting and memorable year in Australia as the result of a teacher exchange. Retiring in 1999, Terence and Pat spent 22 wonderful years traveling throughout Europe, Australia and Asia, returning home to England many times. Both Terence and Pat were active throughout their lives and always willing to try something new, whether it be racquet ball, golfing, curling, lawn bowling, Tai Chi, you name it. Both were also active members of their local Probus club right up to the onset of COVID. Private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 26th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Rotary Park Pavilion, 177 Lake Driveway West, Ajax. Please RSVP to Patricia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Palliative Care until of Lakeridge Health Oshawa at: https://lhfoundation.ca/

I was a student at Sir John A Macdonald in the early seventies. I will always remember Mr. Fleming with fondness and appreciation. I struggled with math and he was willing to put in time after school to help me with math. The day he handed me back a math test and then exam with a B+, we both had smiles from ear to ear. He was a dedicated teacher, I was very thankful for him!

So sorry to hear that Terence left us. My son, Jeff, and I played racquetball with Terence and Pat, a lovely couple everyone liked. I remember their joie de vivre, their energy, and their friendliness. A couple I hadn't seen in 30 years but I will never forget.
