I will forever be grateful to you and the breakfast club. I am not sure if I actually physically needed it. But mentally I needed it. God bless you and may you rest in peace.

Over 10 years has past since I was a child at St. Paul's Elementary and a regular at Sunday Mass - I still remember and love Father Day.

Thanks for touching our lives.

Our entire family is greatly saddened by the recent loss of Father Tom Day. In the few years that we got to know him while attending mass at Thunder Bay Beach, he quickly captured our attention, then admiration & respect, and finally our loyalty. He was a gentle man and yet a strong, determined priest. In his homilies he explained the most difficult of life's topics and challenges, in concise, understandable and many times, humourous ways. He was easy to like and he will be sorrowfully missed. May God grant his soul eternal rest in the Kingdom of Heaven. We wish to extend our most heartfelt condolences to his entire family. We will always remember him and keep him in our prayers.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Father Day at Mass today.
We knew him as a leader to the youth at St. Joseph’s Parish and as the priest that married us at Corpus Christi on May 19, 1973.
We extend our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Upon this day sadness in our hearts...For Father Tom Day
In the silence, no voice do we hear,
No sounds of laughter, emptiness’ feared,
No smile is found, no song in our hearts,
A loss in the family, one has embarked,
A journey for soul’s one special man,
He gave to others, a helping hand,
A gentle man, whose hearts desired,
Tom reached new heights, in others he inspired,
We all knew it, cause Tom he cared,
Those who marvelled, life that he earned,
A father and uncle, brother and friend,
Inquisitive and spiritual, to the very end,
With prayer comes victory, strength comes will,
Patience’s comes virtue, in time comes skill,
Though cold and snow wind and rain,
The rite of passage he never complained,
Memories and faces old places he'd been,
Photographs now cherished something to be seen,
For family and friends, all who gathered near,
Remember his spirit it still lingers here.

Condolances and prayers to the family and friends of Fr. Tom Day. He was a wonderful priest, always ready with a smile, and not afraid to tell a little joke every now and then! Truly down-to-earth. He will be greatly missed at Thunder Beach (where I knew him from). A very accomplished man who touched the lives of everyone he met, Fr. Tom has easily earned his eternal rest at Jesus's side.

Rest in peace, Fr. Tom.

It was only weeks ago Fr Day crossed my mind and to stumble upon this sad news is heartbreaking. I know Fr. Day as a child, at St. Teresa's School, South Etobicoke. My memories of him... he was always happy, funny and cool all around. It would of been a pleasure to meet up with him again, especially as an adult.

To his family... my deepest condolences. I will always keep him in my prayers. May he rest in eternal peace!!

When I was young, my brother and I attended elementary school at St. Paul's Catholic School feeling weak and hungry, until Father Day began a breakfast club in the basement of St. Paul's Basilica. My brother and I will always keep Father Day in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you, Father Day. The Kindness of God shone brightly through you.

It was a pleasure to know Tom and to work with him. For 5 years, Tom enlisted my services to lead music at the 11am mass and he was excellent in giving direction about liturgy and yet gave you the opportunity to contribute your ideas and talent. I will greatly miss him but look forward to the day when I will see him in heaven.

Our sympathy, condolences and prayers go out to all the Day family, but also to those many other less fortunate families whom "Fr Tom" touched throughout his life: in Toronto's East End, Dominican Republic & other nations he visited & donated school supplies, with his beloved "Boat People", as well as MSSB's Breakfast program for all in need & "Early School Leaving Committee" for that very first work & study program for teens under stress in school. We worked with him since the 1970's throughout his Pastoral & Trustee years.
A smaller man in physical stature but a bigger man than most of us in heart, forgiveness, empathy, kindness, Christian values & forward looking ideas. He will be sorely missed & sadly we shall not see his like again. In the biblical sense "Fr. Tom" was "a man without guile" and truly a "Gentle Man" Requiescat in Pacem.

Tom Day was a wonderful friend to my father for many years. My father looked forward to Saturday evening mass at St. Paul's and very often dinner out together with Father Tom afterwards...sometimes I was invited to join them too. Our family remembers Father Day for being there for us at a time of family loss and also happily for the triple baptism of my son Johnpaul and two of my nephews, Robert and Blake at St. Paul's, December 1992. Our greatest admiration of Tom Day is for his establishment of the St. Paul's Breakfast Club and for his support of so many children over the years in such a dignified way.
Thank you to Father Tom Day from the Saccocio Family.

My condolences to the family of Father Tom Day. I rememember Father Day as a great friend to my family when he was at St. Joseph's parish in Toronto, many years ago. He was kind and funny, and when my Dad, Ted Lauzon, coached hockey, Father Day was always out to cheer on this teams. Kids were never afraid to talk to Father Day, and this was an amazing thing back in the 60's. His homilies often included references to Charlie Brown and Snoopy, and were thoughtful, fun, meaningful and relevant. Young people came to mass because they wanted to see and hear Father Day. He was universally liked and respected. My family still tells stories of Father Day, and he will be remembered in our prayers.

We have very fond memories of Fr. Tom, who made a huge difference in both of our lives. It was because of him that Louise I renewed our marriage vows surrounded by family and friends. This stands out as one of the most memorable events in our lives. He had a very special gift, among many others, that allowed him to share a brief meditation that we could take and 'go up the mountain' and reflect. Fr. Tom, a magnificent human being, is now in heaven and truly at peace with Our Lord.

Saludos from San Jose de Ocoa via Brooklyn New York. I met Tom in the Dominican Republic over 10 years ago while doing a profile for NPR on his childhood friend, Father Luis Quinn. (A Scarborough Priest from Toronto) Tom was a rotating fixture at the Casa Curial in Ocoa where his warmth, dedication to working with the poor went hand in hand with his sense of humor, gentleness and relentless eye for justice. There is NO doubt in my mind he's in heaven, exchanging bad jokes with Father Luis over a Presidente. Tom visited Ocoa for decades and will be greatly missed there..

Besos y brazos Padre Tomas!!!

My condolences and prayers... I arrived at St. Paul School as the Principal at the same time as Fr. Tom was appointed Pastor. We were only a few hours apart in age... he would smile and introduce me as bull in a china shop and I would reply "that makes two of us"... we had many good experiences together expecially the Thanksgiving dinners we organized for the entire staff, student body and those who worked on the third floor of St. Paul School. I still think the Breakfast Club should be called the Fr. Tom Day breakfast Club. Many of the students and staff remember him but never knew the Cardinal.
