VERNA HAMMOND Obituary

VERNA HAMMOND 35-year Receptionist with the Ward Funeral Home Peacefully at home surrounded by her family, October 19, 2016. Loving wife for 58 years to William (Bill) Hammond. Dearest mother of Heather (Brian) O'Dell and Nancy (Peter) Banton. Proud Granny of Jennifer, James (Natasha) and Conner. Loved Great-Granny of Jack O'Dell. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. With compassion and grace, Verna provided care to both family members and staff of the Ward Funeral Home for over 35 years. Her experience as a Registered Nurse, a committed mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, a volunteer through the Queensway McCall Centre, a neighbour and friend to so very many, meant that she has left all who knew her with the gift of many fond memories. Through her years of working alongside her colleagues at the funeral home, Verna was a mentor to all those who had the privilege of working with her and her words of encouragement and guidance especially to young funeral directors and team members beginning their career within the Ward Family has left a lasting impression. Simply put, she was easy to love. A Private Celebration of Verna's life is being held at The Weston Golf and Country Club. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Ontario SPCA Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Foundation would be appreciated. Please visit our Book of Memories at www.wardfuneralhome.com
