Verna RITCHIE Obituary

RITCHIE, Verna Estella (nee Johnson) - October 23, 1917 - July 19, 2013 Peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Toronto Western Hospital at the age of 95. Verna was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of Canada and the Toronto District School Board. She will forever be remembered for her dedicated service with the Red Cross Corp. during the World War II. Many soldiers benefited from her kind and caring nature. Verna was predeceased by her husband Herbert and sisters Dorothy Anderson, Muriel Gould and Ila MCGarrie. She is survived by her brother William Johnson and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Verna was a very special Aunt to Carol (Carl) Boettcher and Gaye (Terry) Burnett. Funeral Service will be announced in August. Arrangements entrusted to Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., 416-231-2283. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or to St. James United Church, Etobicoke. For those who wish, online condolence may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

Verna was a special lady with so many stories about the war. I'm glad I got to know her and her stories of the past. We will miss you. RIP.
