WALTER KISKUNAS Obituary

KISKUNAS, WALTER (WALLY) August 10, 1958 - January 26, 2022 Walter (Wally) Kiskunas of Pickering, ON, at the young age of 63, passed away peacefully, following a short battle with cancer in Oshawa - Lakeridge Hospital on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Sandra Isabelle (nee Hauraney), November 10, 2020. Predeceased by his father Walter (Vladas), April 12, 2000. Loving and dear son of Martha. Cherished brother of Colleen. Loving father of Alexis (Debbie), Tara (Frank), and Aaron. Loving uncle of Jason (Audrey). Greyhound Canada honouring Walter for his 35 years of service, 1986-2021. Walt's dedication to his work as Regional Safety Manager ON/QC was to produce high-quality results. Walt was devastated with impact on workers and customers when Greyhound was shut down permanently. May 13, 2021 Walter's passion for music (bass guitar) and his many jam sessions in his full basement studio made him happy. His commitment and work with Safe Haven Community Church was his joy. Walt was a devoted loving husband, father, son, uncle, and brother who worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He was a kind and gentle soul who would always help anyone. Walt will be missed by all of those who were fortunate to be part of his life. We will love you forever. Cremation has taken place and a (livestreamed) memorial service will be held at a later date. Many thanks to doctors, nurses, and team at Lakeridge for care and support during these difficult days of the pandemic. Memorial donations to Lymphoma Canada would be appreciated by the family. Sincere thanks to all who have sent condolences and special tributes for our beloved Walter during this sad time. Rest in Christ's Love

Our sincere thoughts and prayers are being sent out to Aaron, Colleen and family. The Kiskunas family lived a few doors down from us a few years ago. (?? years). Wally was a big part of events around here for us.
I remember that he helped us put up the divider fences, he help me with the boat trail, undercoated my car, brought my dog back when he ran away, shared meals, shared his music in the evening on the back patio, had us up to the family cabin......so many memories.
May he rest in peace and provide his living family with the safety of an angel, like he was on earth.

I´m sorry to hear about the passing of Walter. I´m a bass player who lives around the corner and for years was always wondering who else I was hearing playing bass. We only spoke about music a few times together but I could tell that it was such a passion of his. My condolences and I sure will miss hearing him jam out on the porch in the summertime.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Aaron and family, as you mourn the loss of your Dad. Walter will be missed by so, so many people. I can still see Walter standing and playing the bass guitar at church. There was one particular song we sang and at one part of the song, you would normally clap your hands. But Walter would stamp his foot, giving added emphasis to the song. I always watched for that part of the song where he would do it - he got right into the message of the song. Gone far too song but memories that will last a lifetime.

I would like to add my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends. Working with Walt was special because he was interested in people. We all need hope and I hope to see Walter again. We also shared the love of music and the mutual friendship of John Alexander who played with us in Walt´s studio. A tribute to his willingness to share. May the loyal love of God be praised.

Our deepest sympathy to all family & friends.
I will never forget the first time we played Folsom Prison Blues.
Walt had a wooden train whistle.
He would blow it at the beginning of the song & everytime the lyric referred to train or whistle. We laughed so hard we cried but finished the song. Every time after we still got a laugh. It was wonderful to enjoy those times with him & see him laugh so much.
In the photo you can see the wooden whistle taped the stand.
RIP Walt.

The shock of my Uncle's passing still hasn't waned. Even as I type this I struggle to find words that can adequately express what we lost. Those moments we shared playing war ships in his room, teaching me how to install a sink or watching The Final Countdown until the VHS tape wore out, those moments were enough to shape those parts of myself I'm most proud of.

Like two pillars of strength both Walters now watch over us and when we're not looking up they're probably saying...

"Whadya taaalkin' about!?"

Love ya Uncle Walt. You will be missed.

On behalf of the past and present members of the York Regional Police Male (now titled Community) Chorus I extend sincere condolences to the entire Kiskunas family! Walter was a friend who the York Regional Police Male Chorus family met through his employment with Greyhound Canada. We travelled many hours with Walter during our 39 years of travelling back and forth between Newmarket and Ottawa to participate in the annual Canadian Police and Peace Officer's Memorial and also to Windsor several years ago to take part in the funeral service of a Windsor Police Officer who was killed on duty. Walter was not only courteous and safe while driving, but also showed beyond expectation for those in his care. Walter came to us as a stranger, but left as a friend. He will be missed by all of us in our (his) Chorus. Rest In Peace Walter.

Walter was one of the first to welcome me to Safe Haven. His constant commitment to put others first was clearly evident. His genuine love of Christ and desire that others know Christ drove his life. As he enjoys the fruit of a life surrendered to Christ now, I look forward to the day of worshipping Christ together with Walter around the throne of Christ.
