Paul Nathanson

June 28, 2012

Do you remember me, Jane? Paul Nathanson. I was your brother's friend many years ago. We met at Camp Nominingue, and I visited your house in TMR many times. (You were slim with black hair, right?) One summer weekend, your father flew me up to your country house. For me, that was a real adventure (although I threw up in the lake as soon as we landed). This was in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I met your parents, too, along with Dagmar the dog. Several years ago, I tried to get in touch with your brother. "Big Warren" called me one night with the news that "Little Warren" had died a few years earlier (and that your mother had died even earlier). I was shocked, Jane, partly because your brother had always been so cheerful and self-confident (and your mom so carefree). I remember your parents climbing out of that plane on Lake Nominingue. They looked like movie stars, very glamorous (partly because, not being Jewish, they seemed delightfully "different" to me). But also friendly. Your mom kept smiling and saying "good show" to us. Your dad was quiet but very, very interesting. Those are my impressions filtered through memory and my own projections; how accurate they are is, of course, another matter. I think about those days often and wish that I had some pictures of your and your family. I'd like very much to hear from you, Jane. You can reach me at 514-739-9274 or 514-398-1511 (my office at McGill) and [email protected] or [email protected].

Warren was my first golf instructor when he taught the young golfers at Dunany on Saturday mornings. Thanks to Warren, I was successful as the first winner of the Garth Fish Memorial Trophy given by Doug Percy about 1953 when I was 15. I have been a member of Mount Bruno Country Club for many years where I last saw Warren some 10 to 15 years ago. I offered my thanks to him for the above at that time. Please accept my sympathy.Sincerely,

Ian Van C. McLachlin
