Willi Mingram Obituary

WILLI JULIUS MINGRAM Passed peacefully at the Rouge Valley Health Centre surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 7, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Romana and his children Peter (wife Dorethy, children Michelle and Kelly), Margarete (husband Steve, children Cody and Monika) and Bill (wife Melissa, children Noah and Olivia). There will be no viewing or formal funeral services, as this was Willi's wish. It can be said about The Chef that he wasn't known for throwing a party, but he sure knew how to feed a crowd! We will all miss you Opa! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. The Mingrams thank you in advance.

I was saddened to search for a chef I worked for when I was a student and found this obituary. I have many fond memories of working for Willi in the summer of 1981. It was from him I learned the mantra, "It doesn't have to be good; it has to be hot." Willi demanded quality work from those of us in the kitchen who were there to earn enough money for tuition the next school year. But he was fair and empathetic. Belated condolences to his family.

Other than my father, Chef Willi was my first mentor in the kitchen. He was a demanding individual and he was a fantastic teacher. I regret not making more of an effort to keep in touch, but his memory will remain with me forever. To Chef's family, I offer you my sincerest condolences.
