William Black Obituary

BLACK, William Duncan - Born in Aberdeen, Scotland to John and Isabella Black on December 7, 1914, and died in Toronto, Ontario on February 17, 2009. He was the father of Dave, Bill (wife Linda), and John; and grandfather of Davy Diane, Cali Rose, and Jason. Thank you to the staff of Leisureword - O'Connor Gate, and previously the staff of The Donway Place, for their wonderful care and support and making him feel special. A special thank you to Osman Ali Sheikh, our friend and driver, who called Bill 'Dad', and contributed to his enjoyment of the last 4 years of weekly car trips. His two favourite jobs were Avro Arrow / Orenda Engines, and Gazzola Paving Ltd., where he enjoyed working at 4 Metro Toronto locations. His community involvement included North York Moose, Thistletown Lions Club, and the XKL Goldtimers Hockey (Kirkland Lake), with whom he travelled the world - playing a boys' game (we're all kids at heart!). His religious affiliation has been St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. He loved the services, the music, the bar-b-ques, the fellowship, and especially a good cup of tea. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at ST. MARK'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1 Greenland Rd., Toronto, 416-444-3471 (1 block east of Don Mills Rd., 1 crosswalk south of Lawrence Ave. on the east side) on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Harris Athanasiadis presiding.
