William Caris Obituary

William P. Caris Jr. March 23, 1925 June 16, 2014 William P. Caris, Jr., 89, formerly of Ames Place, Williamsport, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Sycamore Manor. Born March 23, 1925, in Williamsport he was the son of the late William P. and Mae P. (Stover) Caris, Sr. Bill was a lifetime member of St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church and had over 50 years of attendance in Sunday school, and where he enjoyed going to hymn sings. He also was a member of Hepburn Lycoming Sr. Citizens and Maynard Street Sr. Citizens. He was very active at home doing weeding and cultivating raised flower beds, and owner and proprietor of Flowers by Bill Caris, Jr. on Ames Place for 29 years. He loved going to fairs, Lycoming County, Clinton County, Bloomsburg, Grange Fair at Centre Hall, and attended a fair in Green Bay, Wis. In 1952, he entered 28 flower arrangements into the Hughesville Fair and won 25 Ribbons, he was the first male to enter flowers at the fair during that time. He also loved going to the beach, the highlight of his life was his sister, Marlene, who took him on a cruise to the Caribbean, which was the most enjoyable time of his life. He went on a submarine and saw the fish swim by for his 80th birthday. He cared for his black and white Shih-tzu, Suzette, who he had for 16 years. Surviving are his sister, Marlene M. Daneker, of Williamsport; nephews, David Daneker, of Williamsport and Daniel Daneker, of Lancaster; nieces, Deborah Brandt, of Bethlehem and Diane Stanzione, of Williamsport; and six great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2014, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, with Chaplain George Spencer officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial to follow in West Central Cemetery, Madisonburg, Centre County. www.KnightConferFuneralHome.com
