Through my friendship with Sandy's younger sister, Clara, I had the privilege of chatting with Sandy here and there through the years - experiencing his humour, and incredible zest for life, along with witnessing the abiding love he had for his kids as well as the beauty of Patty and Sandy moving through life together. Clara shared many happy stories about Sandy as she did about all of her siblings who were her heart, as well as her nieces and nephews, and parents. Sandy's light will continue to move through this world, illuminating what being part of a family and a community can mean. To John and Marg, and Sandy's children, may you feel at least some comfort in knowing how widely Sandy's life touched the lives of so many.

We lived in Walkerton in the early '50s, and Sandy's dad was our Minister. I can still picture Sandy Bill, as he was known in those days---the little red-headed boy who sat along the pew (and up one) from us each Sunday. He and I were both only three or four years of age at that time, and often tried to chat together in Church (probably loudly!?). His mom always gave him a carrot, and my mom gave me a cookie---to keep us occupied/quiet during the Service. That's going back a few years and our paths took us in different directions, but we reconnected by chance at Trinity Presbyterian in North York many years later. It was a special joy to hold his twin sons as young babies the Sunday they were baptized at Trinity---and Sandy's Dad, Bill, took part in the Service. In one of our chats at Trinity, Sandy and I reminisced about our very sweet and memorable Sunday School teacher in Walkerton---Miss Cane. We both had such wonderful memories of those days almost 70 years ago now. I was so sorry to hear of Sandy's passing and extend my deepest sympathy to his family. He was a gem of a person. "God gave us memories so that we may have roses in December."

As manager of Hart House Theatre during Sandy's tenure as Director of Athletics, a strong friendship developed, as we both shared the same special feelings for Hart House and maintaining goals of leadership for the many students that crossed out paths. He was a kind and thoughtful person who always had a smile and kind word for everyone. It was indeed a privilege to have called him a dear friend. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to have known him.

Sandy was the biggest bargain the University of Toronto ever had. One man ran an entire athletic facility and recreational athletics program for over 25 years. He and his mentor, Carman Guild, oversaw the Hart House Farm operation during the same time period. He was devoted to Hart House and to the University of Toronto. One of the great unsung heroes of that great good place and its heart - Hart House. I am sure that he is charming the angels and has a wink and a smile for each one and is sharing an apple jack with Carman. Thank you Sandy.

Remembering fondly times spent with Sandy Bill and his Dad fishing and many chats at Bruce Beach with the honey jars and recollections over his milk run. Always friendly and cheerful. Will indeed be missed.
