William Howell Obituary

WILLIAM HERBERT HOWELL February 12, 1925 - April 26, 2010 Bill passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, ON, in his 86th year. Bill grew up in St. George, ON until November 25, 1943, when he enlisted in the army and went overseas in 1944. He was assigned to the Royal Regiment and served in Holland, Belgium and Germany. Following the end of WWII, Bill was transferred to the Queen's Own Rifles and served with the Occupation Forces in Germany until August 16, 1946. After a brief period spent apprenticing as a Pharmacist, Bill went to work for General Motors Acceptance Corp. (G.M.A.C.) and spent over 30 years with the company in its Oshawa and Toronto offices. In 1954 he married Kathy Hindle and they made their home in Toronto, Peterborough and Oshawa, until April, 1965 when they moved with their four children Karen, Alan, Diane and Arlene, to a farm in Seagrave, just north of Port Perry, ON. After the sale of the farm and his divorce, Bill moved to Scarborough, ON in 1979. He went into partnership in a trucking firm, TTR Leasing Inc. (now TTR Transport of Oshawa, ON), eventually becoming the sole owner. In 1986, Bill sold the company, half of which went to his daughter Karen. Bill remarried in 1987 to Kay Thompson of Bradford, ON. They made their home together in Scarborough and Campbellford, ON and they had a winter home in Florida for many years. They moved to Barrie, ON in 1997. Bill and Kay enjoyed their annual trips to view the autumn colours as well as their trip to the UK and cruise to Alaska. Bill loved visits with his and Kay's families and was inseparable from his miniature dachshund, Freddie. Bill, Dad, Papa - you will be missed, but we'll hold you close in our hearts forever.

Dad, in your own words, you "had too many memories to remember them all". We love you very much, and miss you. However, knowing you're just a prayer away, brings peace. Hugs and Kisses.
