Whenever I think of Jim, my first thought is his act of kindness and generosity towards me so many years ago on my first trip outside Nova Scotia. I was a kid of 16, my friends invited me suddenly on a trip to Ont., and impulsively I said yes. The Volkswagon we took broke down in New Brunswick and we bussed or trained to Ont. (I don't remember it was so long ago) While in Toronto, I visited Clare who I barely knew. It was actually Jim's first time meeting me, Heaven knows how I looked after travelling on the road, and I only had limited funds to get back. I will never forget Jim insisting on my taking $50 so I would have enough to eat on the way back. (and $50 was significantly more back in the 70's) That caring act has always defined Jim Spicer for me and I still thanked him for it when I talked to him a few years ago. I wish we had had more contact over the years, but feel close to and enjoy the contact I have with the wonderful Spicer clan that has grown from the family he and Clare created and raised. I know he will be missed very much. My prayers, love and very best wishes go out to all of you at this difficult time. God bless.
