WILLIAM TRAYNOR Obituary

TRAYNOR, WILLIAM DANIEL August 11, 1942 – June 1, 2021 On June 1, 2021, after a wonderful and full life, Bill passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind Jeannine (nee De Steur), the love of his life and wife of 54 years. He was the dear father of Elizabeth (Stephen), Michael (Katrina) and Patrick (Andrea). Gaga's legacy will live on with his 7 grandchildren whom he adored, Allison, Sean, Daniel, Hanna, Katelyn, Keegan and Reese. He was an adopted father to Monique and Marc. Bill was the youngest of 5 children and will be missed by his sister Ellen Dolan (Terrence), predeceased by his dear brother Father Patrick Traynor CSP, Susanne O'Sullivan (Patrick) and Anne Spencley. He was like a brother to Diane, Joe, Mary, Peter and Evelyn. He was a cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Bill was proud of his Irish and Scottish heritage. His parents, Elizabeth and Andrew, were hard working immigrants, who welcomed everyone into their home in the Bloor and Bathurst neighbourhood. Bill loved gathering with family and his many friends and continued his parents' tradition of welcoming everyone with warmth and hospitality. Over the years he volunteered in his church communities, such as youth groups, hockey leagues and the Out of the Cold program. He loved working for the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation, where he was a Community Coordinator for 25 years. He was a man who truly loved life and all its simple pleasures. His family will be comforted by the many great memories of spending time at the cottage, where he was always seen puttering around. Thank you to friends who were so kind and supported us over the year since Bill's difficult diagnosis. Your love and prayers are so appreciated by Bill and his family. A special thank you to Dr. U. Emmenegger and Dr. C. McDonald, from the Odette Cancer Centre, who treated Bill with dignity and compassion. We also appreciate the wonderful care given to him by his nurse, Asshita. Due to these unprecedented times, a Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. A private family funeral and interment will take place. Condolences can be left at www.catholic-cemeteries.ca/obituaries. For those who wish, donations in memory of Bill can be made to Sunnybrook Foundation at www.donate.sunnybrook.ca/tribute.

Billy was a very dear friend to my mom and dad for many, many years. My mom still holds close so many memories of meaningful times spent with Billy and Jeanine. I remember his as a gem of a man. I will always remember a conversation we had back at Pop Traynor's 80th birthday party in July of 1982. It was a busy backyard party, with many attendees. I was kind of lost among the adults being only 13 at the time, but I remember Billy taking time to ask me what I was doing for the summer. We also talked about what to expect from grade 8. Such a kind gesture from a wonderful man.

Uncle Bill was an unbelievable person. Every memoir I hold in my heart is filled with happiness. He lived life and loved everyone. He will leave a huge hole in our lives. Thank you for being a wonderful Uncle and "GaGa" to my kids. Uncle Bill always ended every conversation by saying "I love you". Now it is my turn "I Love you and we will always miss you!"

Jeannine and family,

We will miss Bill deeply..... his positive outlook and his loyalty to those of us lucky enough to call him our friend. He cherished his family, his friends and his community.
There is a saying “ Stay close to people who feel like sunlight.” Bill was sunlight to not only us but countless people.
