William White Obituary
WILLIAM WHITE Born May 24, 1917, passed away early in the morning of May 30, 2011 in Burnaby General Hospital, Burnaby, British Columbia as a result of the cumulative effects of COPD. He was 94 years old. He was predeceased by a number of years by his wife Violet and his daughter Laurie. He is survived by his sons Donald and Shawn, 9 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren. A well loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he served in WWII in the RCASC, taking part in the Normandy Invasion and the battle to free the low countries. William was an avid hockey fan and not being able to play the game as a youngster, spent a great deal of his time coaching and helping kids to play the game. In the late 1950s and early to mid 1960s, he worked with the Cedar Hill Minor Hockey Association in Scarborough, Ontario in various capacities. After moving west in the 60s to Vancouver he again volunteered himself in a number of capacities with the Killarney Minor Hockey Association in east Vancouver. After retiring at age 80 from his collision repair shop, B W Body Repair, he was content to spend as much time as he could with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Arbor Chapel at Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14660-72nd Avenue Surrey, British Columbia, at 2 p.m. June 24, 2011.
