Adolph ZIMMERMAN Obituary

ZIMMERMAN, Adolph May 18, 1918 November 24, 2011 Adolph, the oldest son in a family of 10 children, was born in Darwin, Manitoba and grew up on the family farm in SE Manitoba. He was sent overseas as a signalman in the Canadian infantry in WWII and returned to Canada after being wounded fighting in Sicily. Adolph lived an amazing life. He was an underground miner, sometimes being the sole person in a mine a mile underground. He was also a surface miner. He and Olive, his wife of 60 years, built and operated Lakeside Cabins at West Hawk Lake, Manitoba. Adolph was a game warden and a commercial transport inspector. He built numerous cabins around West Hawk Lake and Falcon Lake, often bringing the building supplies in by boat or over frozen lakes, and was the goto/fix-it man for many of the cottagers in the area. Adolph and Olive retired to Victoria in 1999 to be near their children, Wayne (JoAnne) and Audrey (Lewis McFarlane) and to watch their 5 grandchildren Sara (Mike), Erin (Chace, Aevin), Katie (Brent), Stacy, Greg (Heather) grow up. He lived to hold his first great-grandson, Desmond, born in Sept. 2011. No service by request. A tea will be held at a later date at Lion's Cove where he and Olive have resided for 12 years. Enjoy your rest Dad, you earned it! All our love, your family. 643604

Hello Mrs Zimmerman, my condolences to you and the family. I often remember the old house and going for supper there. I used to like looking at the traps and the pelts with Adolph
